deadhead5573
Have a 2016 lincoln mkx reserve withe 3.7 motor. Driving to the shore, about 70 miles. at about the 65 mile mark i get an message, stating the AWD will be temporarily disconnected. I press the okay button. Did not come back on the whole way back and i went into the info center and watched the AWD graphic all the way home and all four wheels were active. when the message came on. only the FWD was active. is this a cause for concern? Or the fact I was doing 90 to 95 the whole way there and it overheated
jcartwright99
Sounds like you have a PTU problem of some sort is my amateur guess. How many miles? Have you ever changed the PTU fluid. From what I've read, once it overheats the fluid is toast.
deadhead5573
46,000 miles. Ptu is lifetime part. No mention of service in owners manual. Just ran into 200 service bill. Can not duplicate customers concern and no errors found on dtc. Awd disconnected message came on but didn't log in computer.did they check ptu fluid? Nope. Ptu lifetime part. Doesn't mention in my owners manual. Come home drain ptu. Black like burnt coffee. Smelled burnt. But still I'm stuck 200 service bill. Paid 40 in parts to change fluid myself. Bummer.... so your right it is toast. But I wish I knew they wouldn't look at and thus paid 200 for nothing.. I heard it takes 2 times for error message to come on then computer logs it in. Since it was not logged my dealer which have been great up till now. Did nothing but check for errors n charge me 200.
YT90SC
PTUs are truly lifetime filled! When it blows up, that was it's lifetime. Circumference of tires is CRITICAL on these. The maximum allowable difference is like 1/4 inch. If it gets towards a half, you WILL shell the PTU. Rotation at every oil change and NEVER mis matching or putting just a pair of tires on is vital.
