First Light
Has anyone installed a performance tuner or chip on their 2.3L EcoBoost. Is it necessary, not necessary? Thoughts? Not planning on doing this, just curious.

Ford even sells factory tunes for Mustang 2.3LEBs.
theoldwizard
The 2.3L has an "open deck" block. There is no surface that the head mates to. The hot rodders with deep pockets, scanned the top of the block, used CAD to make a "plug" that fits in the void, with a few water passages. Now they can really crank up the boost ! A few people are running E85 for max boost.

Thanks, I kinda figured that but have no experience with this engine. Edited October 25, 2020 by First Light
Baddestt
5 star tuning can set you up to make good power with the 2.3. I plan to use them when I get my 22 Timberline delivered. Wish Ford wouldve used the 2.7 in the Timberline

Doc68
It was for performance but the mileage is 22.7 on 93 octane, same as my 2021 on 87 octane 22.7…. also my truck was the R+D truck for Unleashed. Regards Doc

Baddestt
Awesome . 388, that's good torque to the wheels for the 2.3. I want to see what kind of power 5 star tuning can get out of the 2.3 2022 Explorer timberline
jstapleton
I'd vote for 5star tuning as well. I have a 3.5 ecoboost F150 and made huge improvements, especially on the 91 or 93 octane. Only downside is the mileage because it makes it even more fun to drive!
