2021 F150 First Drive

Recommended Posts

Foxnews' article took me a minute to figure out. The only thing the F-150's powertrain options bear resemblance to Russian Roulette is the number six.  Well, and the fact that no one has ever accused the 3.0  turbodiesel of packing the "most punch."

"The F-150 is launching with a Russian roulette of six powertrains to choose from that includes the latest versions of its 3.3-liter V6; 2.7-liter and 3.5-liter EcoBoost turbocharged V6s; 5.0-liter V8; and 3.0-liter turbodiesel, but it’s the last one that packs the most punch."

That sentence is poorly written, and it took me a couple of times to figure out that the "most punch" last one is not the 3.0 turbodiesel, but the PowerBoost. Note that only 5 are mentioned up through the turbodiesel.

The hybrid sounds like a real winner.

Yes sir T-dubz. In Motor Trend's testing, 2021 F-150 Hybrid Lariat Supercrew 4WD recorded a 0-60 mph time of 5.3s and quarter mile of 13.2s @ 102.1 mph. If real world fuel economy is anywhere near EPA estimate of 24 mpg overall, that's the best combination of performance and efficiency of any stock, from the factory ICE powered pickup truck ever.

The best combination of performance and efficiency of any pickup truck ever since there are no non-ICE pick-ups for sale.

That's true Trader 10 sir for the time being. However in 2021 when the first BEV full size pickup trucks become available for retail sale, performance benchmarks will be raised a lot. 0-60 mph acceleration times as low as 2.9s for Tesla Cybertruck, 3s for Rivian R1T, about 3s for GMC Hummer EV, and "faster than any current F-150" for Ford BEV F-150.

Hybrid pickups are evolutionary, BEV pickups will be revolutionary.

'21 F150 now offering up to 14,000 max towing depending configuration, importantly they increased GVM

to make this possible as well as adequate toe ball down force and reserve for passengers and luggage.

Even the 2.7 is available with 3.7s and up to 10,000 lbs max towing......

Another very positive article on the Powerboost.

The up charge on Powerboost comes with Pro Power onboard generator which is a standalone option with other engines. Also, like the Transit EV, Ford is going all in on the Powerboost... this is not going to be some limited avail hard to find model. The Powerboost option will be available across the board on all trim levels crew cab. Fleet buyers will be able to get a XL Powerboost and hedge fund bros will be able to a Limited Powerboost.
