jcartwright99
I was thinking about this the other day. Having a special needs kid who doesn’t often understand the dangers around him, this has been essential in my Fusion. Will the Bronco have this for the 4 door? I’ve looked around and don’t see any mention of it. If not, that immediately takes the Bronco off the list. I can’t count how many times he’s pulled on the handle while we were driving. I believe legally they have to

I would just about guarantee a big yes to that. I believe they are federally mandated.
probowler
Or just buy a 2-door. No door, no need for safety locks

No but it sounds like a cognitive disability which sometimes can be just as difficult. I have someone I my family with something kinda like what OP described so navigating to the back seat in a 2 door vehicle isn't as easy of a task as you would think, trust me I tried it in my Focus. Didn't go well.
jasonj80
As Fuzzy said they are actually required on all vehicles manufactured after the late 80's.

It also doesn’t help he’s on 7 different medications for his epilepsy. So yes, 2 door would not be a good idea. I did some googling and based on what I found, there is no regulation. Although, not 100 confident in what I found (see below link). So I think I’m back to square one. I can make the assumption that it will be included but I didn’t see it listed. I did see the latch child seat attachment listed so I found that odd. Safety Locks

Safety Locks When I go back to work next week I'll swing by door line and see if there's a hole for the child lock switch on the back door for you. I don't think that would get me into trouble. Didn't go well. Would depend on the 2 door. When my kids were small, my MN-12 Thunderbirds were about the best thing I ever had them in. I felt they were even better than the Taurus/Escorts/Focus I had concurrently. BIG door opening with the fold forward seat out of the way, they couldn't dick with doors or windows, they could step in and walk -not crawl- to their seats, and it was super nice in inclement weather to strap them in. Miss those old turds. My middle kid is high function autistic, I can totally understand the specific need.

The Pontiac G5 we had wasn't much better but the doors were longer than the Focus so that helped. Problem was the seat didn't advance as far forward as the Focus. K270
Just out of curiosity, do any of the current vehicle descriptions mention child safety locks?
Gpfarrell
If for some reason they don't, just take the door apart and disconnect the rod from the inside door handle. Not as convenient, but that's how all the old police cars were handled.

jcartwright99
Actually, I have no idea. They may just not list them anymore. The Escape doesn't list them but it's included in owners manual.

That could just be the difference between an old model that's on its way out the door so the literature hasn't been gone over with a fine tooth comb and changed in a few years vs. a brand new one that has a newly written manual.
