Jaguar cars to go all-electric by 2025 as JLR plans full range of e-models by 2030 | Reuters

LONDON (Reuters) - Jaguar Land Rover’s luxury Jaguar brand will be entirely electric by 2025 and the carmaker will launch e-models of its entire lineup by 2030, it said on Monday, as it joined a global race to develop zero-emission vehicles.

JLR, owned by India’s Tata Motors, said its Land Rover brand will launch six pure electric models over the next five years, with the first one coming in 2024.

Known for its iconic, high-performance E-Type model in the 1960s and 1970s, Jaguar faces the same challenge as many other carmakers - making the transition to electric vehicles while retaining the feeling and power of a luxury combustion engine model.

JLR said it will keep all three of its British plants open as it electrifies its range. “It’s time to re-imagine the next chapter for both brands,” Chief Executive Thierry Bollore said.

Shares in Tata Motors rose as much as 3% after the announcement.

Agree, but they are probably chasing China like all their competitors. I would imagine Europe is a given.

My thing is,the way alot of people are now today, all it takes is the wrong thing to happen with an electric car, people get outraged and turn on the electric cars,it will crash and burn down. And all of the stupid companies that went FULL ON electric will be executed!!

Just the opposite. The "stupid companies" among the incumbent automakers are those that lack a strategy to transition their passenger car and light truck lineup to 100% ZEV ASAP. Those are the companies that won't survive this revolution.

JLR's 2025-2030 strategy is good except for their pursuit of fuel (fool) cells and sudden cancellation of BEV XJ.

Time will tell.

Jag doesn’t have enough resources to do both.  This is their last Hail Mary attempt to stay relevant or so I’ve read.  Seemed like jag could only make enough profit to keep the lights on and needed a capital infusion any time a new platform was needed.  Canceling the XJ was a head scratcher.  Must have been some undisclosed issue that would have taken time and development pounds the company didn’t have.
