i currently have a 2017 with the 3.55, so that’s what I ordered for this go round. Maybe I made a mistake? My normal towing is one of two things:

1. Polaris Ranger on a trailer with an estimate of about 2k total. Commonly would have 500ish pounds of payload in the bed.

2. Towing a Kubota on a two axle trailer, at approx 6500 total pounds. Would likely have 500ish pounds in the bed too.

These towing scenarios are highway towing, the entire way.

I would switch to the 3.31 locker. I think I have seen on here that the 3.55 is kinda of hard to get into production/built do to supply issues, I may be wrong. I think I would like the 7.3 gasser but then again I would hate the fuel mpg. I have seen that 14 mpg with that motor is considered good. If you ever plan on selling it the 6.7 obviously will bring more $$ but it also cost more. I have no clue as to the reliability of that motor in the long haul but I can tell you I have several Fords with the 6.7 dsl in my fire truck fleet with several thousands of hours on them and they all run like new. Most of the trucks we have are sitting at 17,500 lbs and are driven hard "its a fire truck" (F-550 cc 4x4 19,500 gvw diesel).

So for those of us that just ordered a truck within the last week or so, what the likely hood of it ever being built?

I ordered 10/30 and supposedly in production this week.  Haven't received updates on a specific date.  Window sticker became available on 12/3 so I am assuming build won't be until next week if they stick to the 7-8 days after sticker is available.

I am reading on FTE that many trucks scheduled to be built this week are not getting built and are being moved offsite because of more chip issues.  Anybody else reading or hearing this?  My build date is Friday.

I haven't heard of that yet but wouldn't surprise me!

Dealer said  my order has made it to the last rail yard waiting for transport to their facility.  Posted timeliness below in screenshot.

2022 F450 Lariat Crew Cab 4×4.......no AS/bedliner/or bed cover.  It does have the 5th wheel connection.  Once it arrives, I will post some pictures.

Mine arrived at the destination rail yard Friday December 3rd, was unloaded Monday December 6th and just about every variety of ford trucks, cars & SUVs have been showing up to my dealer. I’ll bet you get yours before I do.

How do you get a timeline of the rail tracking? I have called the csx # and know my truck is at the local rail yard and has been since Sunday however my dealership isn’t helpful at all and share nothing with me.

Good luck.  As a Ford employee, I pulled out every name I know and every contact trying to get my truck out of the rail yard, and in the end, it was sheer luck of the draw that I finally received it.  It was the most frustrating point of the whole frustrating process.

I don’t want to expedite the process I just want the tracking information. I want to stay on top of the dealership as I don’t trust them to not sell my truck. They have been very unhelpful to say the least.

I’m very frustrated. Ordered a 2022 F250 Platinum  7.3 on 9/27/21. I only received an order number from my dealer. As of last week, still no build date or VIN. Dealer said that Platinums and KRs were delayed. Dealer modified my order last week to a Lariat in hopes that my order will be pulled for production……still waiting.

IMHO, you didn’t make a mistake. You will have absolutely no problem pulling your loads.

Could you have been fine with the 3.31? I’d say yes. Would you get slightly better fuel economy? Probably yes again.

However, there are many more folks out there that won’t look at all the numbers and won’t recognize that the final ratios are comparable or better than those with a 3.55 and a six speed.

Depending on where your truck is in the process, it’s up to you if you want to change it.

All of this is very true!  Frankly, both will work just fine for everyone.

From @dirthawg in a different forum back in February:

6R140.....1st 3.97 2nd 2.31 3rd 1.51 4th 1.14 5th 0.85 6th 0.67
10R140...1st 4.61 2nd 2.91 3rd 2.13 4th 1.77 5th 1.51 6th 1.27 7th 1.00 8th 0.85 9th 0.68 10th 0.63

Doing some math we get the following final drives.

6R140 with 3.31 gears..........1st 12.82 2nd 7.64 3rd 4.99 4th 3.77 5th 3.17 6th 2.21
6R140 with 3.55 gears..........1st 14.09 2nd 8.20 3rd 5.36 4th 4.04 5th 3.01 6th 2.37
6R140 with 3.73 gears..........1st 14.80 2nd 8.61 3rd 5.63 4th 4.25 5th 3.17 6th 2.49
6R140 with 4.30 gears..........1st 17.07 2nd 9.93 3rd 6.49 4th 4.90 5th 3.65 6th 2.88

The way I got my timeline was to write down the info each time I called the CSX#.  Once it’s at the local rail yard everything goes black until it gets delivered to the dealer.

I had "traded in" a 2020 cc f250 dsl with the 3.31 locker. I averaged 21mpg with city and county driving. On the hwy doing 70mph I never got less than 23 and usually 25 mpg.. Love the 331 and towed 12k with absolutely no issues. I towed my buddies 15k trailer over the pass at 70 mph with him and he was pissed. His 2021 dodge 6.7 dsl with the 3.,73 rear end wont do over 58 mph with the that trailer over that same pass.

Great info!  I ordered the 3.31 and will be towing under 10k with it.  This helps me not regret going 3.31!

Mine shipped on the 19th of November, and has apparently been sitting at Canadian Pacific's Rail yard in Bensenville, IL since the 23rd. My ETA is the 14th. I spoke to my sales guy today and he said he has several trucks sitting there currently without an explanation. Really hoping its a tracking glitch and ill get my truck on time ?  Destination: Vancouver, BC

I called CSX automated phone tracing in the morning and evening and copied the information.
