2021 Escape PHEV back on track, maybe, sort of, no one knows

Not everyone wants a full BEV.


It doesn’t fit his or Europe’s agenda of full Bev or nothing.  Europe makes it worse with laws that force them to use charge sustaining mode to save EV mode for in city driving.

Regulatory compliance in the short term for the next 5 years or so. In Europe, Ford has Kuga PHEV in its product lineup to meet Regulation (EU) 2019/631. In the U.S. Escape PHEV and Corsair Grand Touring exist to help Ford meet 2021-2025 CAFE standards.

 

By mid decade when Euro 7 standards get underway, ICE powered vehicles including hybrid and PHEV will see their final days, and by the end of the decade the final nail will be sealed in their coffins for the EU market. Ford is ready for this. they've committed to 100% BEV and PHEV for European market light vehicles by 2026, and complete phase out of any ICE powered vehicles by 2030. Similar dynamics will be in play in other regions where Ford does business. So the next generation for Kuga/Escape and Corsair will necessarily be BEV only.

Europe is also starting production of hybrids for Escape, S-Max and Galaxy as buyers move away from diesel power.

Ford Europe also being hit hard with chip shortages so everything in chaos at the moment.
