Cknox78
I received a call from my dealer today telling me my 2021 order placed on March 3rd is being changed to a 2022. Is this something that Ford would do? Edited April 8, 2021 by Cknox78
rick johnson nm
Yes, it happened to me in 2018. Since model changes are minor most years, it should have little effect on your order. The order backlog is normal every year. Production is usually shut down in June for the change over and you should have yours go down the line in July, soon after the line starts up again. That assumes the chip shortage this year gets fixed soon. On the bright side, your model is gonna carry the 2022 designation. Rick
Cknox78
So do bumped orders take priority and built first?

Is this something that Ford would do? Not normally. Usually the Dealer would have to re-order the vehicle.

Annual summer shutdown is normally the first two weeks of July but Ford announced today that the shutdowns are being cancelled at almost all plants to make up for lost production due to the microchip shortage. In addition, the initial production for the new Model Year is restricted to Dealer stock orders until the "Okay to Buy" status is achieved and retail orders usually don't start scheduling until after that. Dealers would still have to prioritize the orders unless Ford establishes a special procedure for this year's situation with production cuts due to the microchip shortage. road turtle
Can't imagine ok to buy being delayed in this quiet year.

Plants down because of microchip shortages? Demand is outstripping supply so the market is anything but quiet. And the "Okay to Buy" status requirement (5 consecutive days of production with zero defects) doesn't change. road turtle
Limited number of changes makes it a product design quiet year. I wouldn't expect any issues with OKTB being delayed due to component quality. Chips, that's a completely different issue, and the larger scale issue, it's affecting all the manufacturers.
