In partnership with LG (as in Lordstown). Interesting details:

General Motors and South Korean joint-venture partner LG Chem Ltd. will announce a second U.S. battery cell manufacturing plant on Friday, revealing plans for a $2.3 billion factory in Spring Hill, Tenn., three people familiar with the matter said.

The plant will use a different, more cost-effective battery chemistry than the one the companies will offer from the joint-venture plant they are building in Lordstown, Ohio, the sources said on Wednesday.

The battery will be for the Cadillac Lyriq electric crossover vehicle that GM will begin building at its nearby Spring Hill assembly plant next year, the sources said.

GM said in October it would invest $2 billion in Spring Hill to build EVs.

What are you doing Ford?

Market is going to get crowded.  Let’s see how this shakes out.  Ford will have the F150 next year, which will cover their highest volume vehicle.  Between that, the Mach e and whatever comes out of rivian Ford should be covered for the short term.  After that, it is going to depend on customer acceptance and how much money the feds throw at it.

As of now, it looks like the American car companies (the big 3 of GM, Tesla, and Ford, plus Rivian, Lordstown Motors and other U.S. based EV startups) are in the lead for the BEV market in the U.S. But the Europeans (Daimler, BMW, VW, Stellantis) and Chinese appear to be strong competitors. South Koreans are making an effort, Japanese not as much.

Sorry for any confusion sir. Big 3 in this context = 3 largest U.S. domestic companies by revenue that design, manufacture, and market passenger cars and light trucks.

Even though Ram is technically owned by Fiat er Stellantis, they still out sold Tesla by a considerable amount in North America alone.

Stellantis isn't a U.S. domestic company. It may be considered one of Europe's Big 3 automakers along with Volkswagen Group and Daimler.

Stellantis like GM announced plans to make its own BEV high voltage battery cells. Ram Electric Pickup Truck Might Arrive in 2024 (motortrend.com)
