Hardwire Radar Detector

Is there an easy way to hardwire a radar detector w/o running wire down the roof to a fuse panel? I am guessing a 12V switch and a ground so that the radar turns on when ignition is ON and automatically turns off when ignition is turned off.

You could pull the panel above the rear view mirror as there is power there.  You would have to probe the wires and find a combination that is on with the ignition.

I thought about that when I installed mine but decided it would be easier to run a wire under the front edge of the headliner and down the drivers side A pillar to the fuse panel there just below the dash.  Was so easy and quick.   Also found the right ignition controlled fuse to use.

I hardwired an Escort radar detector in my 2015 Edge.  Connected to the auto dimming mirror / forward facing camera / wiper sensor.  I’ll link the website I used to reference which wires to connect to if I can find it.  The detector gets power when the car is turned on only.  Also, I probably could have done a better job with strain relief of the wires and a better job removing the plastic cover to access the wires.

Would you mind sharing photos of your installation?  I’m particularly interested in the mount to the mirror and the path that the wire takes to get to the fuse box (and how the wire is hidden).
