I just watched it, from the video:

  • New frontend styling which keeps the same basic shapes
  • New Silverado ZR2 offroad model
  • Completely new interior (actually looks nice)
  • 13.9" center screen and 12" instrument cluster
  • Super Cruise hands-free driver assist (and will work with trailering)
  • OTA updates
  • Engine updates w/ 2.7L turbo

  • Thanks 1

It is typical GM keeping existing customers happy but not targeting new ones.

That's the strategy used by Ford, Toyota, and Nissan for their full size LD pickup trucks too. Only Stellantis' RAM 1500  has been successful in getting a large base of "conquest" customers.

Ford innovates to stay at the top, they also are allowed to do things on the F-series that other programs in Ford (short of the Mach-E) wouldn't be able to do. It is like the GM Full Size SUV programs, Grand Cherokee or Camry (up until few years ago) and now RAV4. The programs get 99.9% of what they ask for.

Thank you rmc523 for the official release from GM. Sadly, no mention of Silverado EV. ☹️

Highlights.

  • New flagship ZR2 delivers next-level off-road capability right from factory and validated in the grueling Best in the Desert off-road racing series, with front and rear e-lockers and Multimatic DSSV dampers
  • Fully redesigned, new premium interior on LT and above with standard 13.4-inch-diagonal color touchscreen and elevated exterior design refresh across lineup
  • New tech, including available Super Cruise1 driver-assistance technology on High Country with available trailering (late availability) and standard Chevy Safety Assist on all-new enhanced trims
  • Enhanced 2.7L Turbo High-Output engine delivers 20 percent more torque and 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel max towing increased by 4,000 pounds to 13,300
  • A fully redesigned interior for LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, ZR2, LTZ and High Country trims featuring a redesigned, sweeping horizontal instrument panel that makes the cabin feel more spacious, along with a new, more functional center console (with available electronic shift control on most trim levels)
  • A 13.4-inch-diagonal color touchscreen and new 12.3-inch-diagonal configurable digital instrument cluster standard on models with the new interior
  • Standard on trims with the new interior, Google built-in² offers access to Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play right on the infotainment screen. This new experience works with Android AutoTM3 and Apple CarPlay4 capability and offers new levels of customization and flexibility for customers.
  • Every trim features a new front fascia, which emphasizes the truck’s stability and strength with a wide, planted stance while new daytime running lamps have been programmed with animated walk-up and walk-away functions in addition to swiping turn signal functions on select trims

GM says 2022 Silverado "arrives at dealerships in spring 2022".

Not shocking that they'd split the Silverado and EV announcements - naturally the EV would overshadow the regular refresh as far as attention goes.

Thank you jasonj80 sir. Do you think GM will approach BEV Silverado in that way? Or will the Hummer EV program get higher priority than BEV Silverado in terms of resources?

Hummer is getting a lot of push in the short term because of the price points it can command. Unlike Ford that can sell 90k pickups the Chevrolet brand just can’t command those prices.  I can say a few like that Hummer was brought back and others think they should have stuck to GMC and focused on a powertrain for the full line like Ford did. Long term it just builds the brand even more. They say resources are being wasted building a brand again as come late decade electric are more common and will be a powertrain option. The Hummer name for others has a presence like no other and can finance the program. There is however seems to be some pretty major issues right now with the GM batteries.

Good point rmc523. Do you know when GM plans to debut Silverado EV?

Not a clue - though they've put out some teasers of the EV, so I can't imagine it'd be too far off?

They could if they'd stop artificially limiting it via GMC.

So they've seen the relatively high demand for performance off-road oriented trucks, and the decent amount of revenue that can be made by selling them. Yet they still won't go all in on a raptor or trx rival? Instead giving us a mildly tweaked Silverado, slapping the zr2 badge on it, and saying good enough.

Quite frankly-it doesn't look like they need a Raptor competitor. It looks like the "Trail Boss Custom Trim" is already selling well-and this should do even better.

we don’t have pricing for the ZR2 yet, but I guess the question is if they’re leaving money on the table by not going “full Raptor”.

They didn't waste any time, running a commercial for it early in the Thursday Night Football game last night, with Chase Elliot and others,,,,
