EV Transition-Can Dealers handle it?

Recommended Posts

If Ford spun off a brand, or brands, would they be able to renegotiate with dealers?  For example was RAM a whole new dealer agreement?  Imagine if they were able to say “Oh, you want to still sell F-Series? Then you need to…”

why would they complicate a situation they CURRENTLY aren't handling too well with supply issues, delayed releases and constant lists of recalls?....

What would be the consquences? The dealer would be free of the pain in that ass and low margins that they cry about, and I wouldn't have need a useless middleman to transact the purchase. The dealer would still be around for things like service and warranty support, you know, the things that they say bring them real profit. Win-win.

you want to be treated in a corporate manner rather than personally by someone that has a VESTED interest...so be it...you reap what you sow...and seriously...THINK instead of being so completely self absorbed with your own convenience....the world doesn't revolve solely around you and YOUR needs/ desires...and that's what's fundamentally flawed about your brilliant idea....youre pretty much a case study of AMAZON.COM mentality...like or loathe...YOU and specifically Ford Corporate NEEDS the Dealerships as a buffer for direct interaction....Corporate is based solely on a bean counter mentality basically where every penny matters...its why warranty claims are sometimes a complete pain in the ass to deal with, and why Lemon Law attourneys even exist.....

Not sure about Ram Trucks, but the Genesis brand under Hyundai Motor Group did require U.S. Genesis dealers which were previously Hyundai dealers to sign new franchise agreements. Genesis Newsroom (genesisnewsusa.com)

The dealer doesn't have a vested interest in me, and that's only fair. I don't have a vested interest in them.

You've failed to mention what the consequenes actually are, though. You've only blathered on about your own dislikes and have indirectly insulted me, but you've said nothing of intelligence about any consequences. Are you all blather, with no facts? It's fine if you're in love with your own voice, but other people mostly aren't.

LMAO...NO..Im just calling you out in particular, Im quite familiar with the attitude...….Im not the one that wants to be totally catered to with as little effort as possible...world revolves around "baltisar" apparently....thank god in my lifetime your wishes will not come to fruition...Ill take a wild guess and state you've had some bad dealer experience at some time...based on the rhetoric Id say you somewhat bought that on yourself..ESPECIALLY given you stated you're A Plan, which are the easiest no BS transaction s there are....obviously not good enough for you, but hey....

Here is a You tube video on this subject.

Disclosure: I did sell Ford cars for a short time in the 90's, so I do see the pros and cons of dealerships, but here is an argument brought on by the markups of Mach E, Bronco and now the Lightning:

The dealership in question is Rodman Ford in Massachusetts.

So I had an interesting call last night-

The Bronco Specialist at the dealership I was dealing with basically was begging me to send them an email saying I "released" my bronco for sale to them because I "refused" it.

Then admitted to me on the phone that Ford was going to start pulling their 22MY allocations, because not enough reservation holders actually completed the sale with them...wonder why....

So it looks like Ford is going to be smacking some dealerships that have been playing the ADM game.

Wait, this is on the "first" one, right?  The one they wanted an extra $10K, then sold out from under you?   Why do I think that your adventures with this dealer isn't over yet?  Can't wait until the replacement order shows up.

Correct-I'm guessing other reservation holders walked also.

Ford has been setting rules for the newer vehicles (Mustang Mach-E, Bronco, etc.) regarding advertising, sales prices, retail order compliance, etc. and enforcing them via an audit program for compliance. Dealers have to report scheduled retail orders that are cancelled by the customer or be in violation of the program rules. Dealers can lose allocation, lose incremental allocation and even be charged back for incremental allocation granted previously depending on the severity of the Dealer's violations.

The Dealers are being held accountable for their actions.

Someone forgot to tell Mullinax.....they have a Bronco 1st Edition for sale for $92,500, and a 2019 Ford GT for $1,100,000. Gee, I'll take both.

And Lithia (as Don's Ford), and Steet-Ponte, and Fenton. Three local Ford dealers in my area that see MSRP in the literal sense it is only a "suggestion" I refuse to ever pay an additional dealer markup! its bad enough you are hitting me at "full pop" now you want even more?? Keep the fucking thing...get another sucker to pay your inflated prices.

I don’t think they outlawed ADMs but if those ADMs cause retail orders to refuse delivery they’re hitting them hard.

I have refused to do business with dealers who do ADMs, and there are a lot of them out there. Fortunately, there are a lot who don't do them. It pays to research.

to block the inherent dummy orders....it is a bit medieval in its application though, I had one Maverick that was ordered under a personal name then altered at time of delivery to a Trust....talk about jumping through hoops.....I also had to get a letter from a guy who passed on his Bronco order through getting diagnosed with Testicular Cancer...I mean seriously...Ford required a letter FROM THE CUSTOMER with the reason he passed on his order....Its going to be an absolute $hit show...as a LOT of people have pulled out solely due to the time it has taken......and...whos fault is that...?,

hit the brakes a bit there silver...its NOT just addendums making people refrain from following through on their orders...Ive had a couple of orders where buyers did NOT qualify, or had a false sense of what the payments would be, theres also been illness's, lay offs and the good old lack of patience....

Jeez, Deanh, give it rest. If you would look outside your little world, you'd see that the new car buying experience is about as popular as a root canal. Don't bother responding; I won't read it, and your posts don't change the public perception, in fact they reinforce it.

I know I could have had my Mach-E two months earlier, as a dealer in Indiana had my exact order on the lot. I didn’t, and I’m glad, as my dealer is awesome, but it really seems unfair that doing so would reflect badly on them. My salesman was nearly as excited for me to take delivery of my Mach-E as I was.

It doesn’t reflect badly on them if the buyer changes their mind through no fault of the dealer.  That’s why Dean has to do so much paperwork to document that it was the buyer’s choice to walk away.

Assuming the buyer writes a letter though, right?  How many are willing to do that?  Especially when it wasn’t a happy reason (illness, loss of job, lack of credit, etc)

You would think the finance office would have done a decent job of telling the customers what the monthly payment would be and get a general sense of if they would qualify.  That said, circumstances can change for many people in the 6+ months it took to actually deliver from the order dates.

The finance office doesn’t get involved until the day you purchase the vehicle, not reserve, not order.
