rperez817
Chevrolet Previews Equinox EV DETROIT – Chevrolet will expand its EV lineup in fall 2023 to include the Equinox EV, an affordable, functional compact SUV that will start at an estimated MSRP of around $30,000 in the U.S. The Equinox EV, which will be launched with both fleet and retail versions, including LT and RS trims, will leverage GM’s Ultium Platform. “The Equinox has always played an important role for Chevrolet as the second-highest selling brand nameplate,” said Steve Hill, Chevrolet vice president. “Providing an affordable EV option in the industry’s highest volume segment proves Chevy is going to make EVs available to everyone.” The announcement of the Equinox EV comes on the heels of Chevy’s reveal of the 2024 Silverado EV and confirmation of the Blazer EV SUV, which will be available in spring 2023. bzcat
Looks really good. $30k starting price is going to be a game changer. Lots of solid choices now at ~$45k starting price so this will really bring the price of good EV down significantly.

This vehicle is a game changer, but I don't see how they can do it at that price point with the way it is being shown with that panoramic display. The vehicle being shown will be closer to $50,000. The stripped down model will look more like an Escape S than a $45,000 Escape Titanium Elite. And the Escape S has a little 4 inch display screen. Chevy has no big time cost advantage over Ford. But for BEV, Chevy/GM has a huge advantage over Ford and other incumbent automakers thanks to the economies of scale provided by Ultium. John McElroy from Autoline Daily talked about this a couple weeks ago.

Considering Ford is offering a F150 Lightining (Crew Cab 4X4 Truck) starting at 40K, I am not surprised to see this. I am sure these pics are not of the base model... Given the fire related recalls and stop sale actions issued for Chevy Bolt last year and earlier this year, the term "fire sale" may be quite appropriate. ? In all seriousness, GM's price drops for 2023 Bolt EV and Bolt EUV represents the company's foray into pricing strategy for BEV that's similar to consumer electronics products like smartphones. The lower prices over time on mature products (Bolt and Bolt EUV) leaves room for higher prices on new products (Equinox EV and other Ultium based vehicles), allowing GM to serve a broad BEV customer base. Makes you wonder how Ford still manages to sell several thousands of these miserable turds every month. EcoSport SE $25,510 SES $28,205 Titanium $28,395 EcoSport S is cheaper at $22,040 but it is not comparable because Chevy doesn't sell a Bolt LS barebones model like the S.

One persons "miserable turd" is another persons "first new car". it's all about perspective I would guess. EcoSport is not bad per se, but it does nothing extremely well either...just a middle of the road appliance mobile that has come to it's end.
92merc
I look at it the opposite direction. Why the F does Chevy need to sell the Bolt so low? I just can't believe they're making any money on it. With battery and chip shortages, it's a waste of good resources for little to no profit. If GM thinks the Bolt battery issue has damaged the model to the point of where it can't sell, then axe it. Re-allocate the chips and batteries to somewhere GM can actually make some profit.

EcoSport served its purpose as an entry level vehicle but subsequently failed by Ford's lack of attention and updates to make it competitive. Unfortunately, the only entry level vehicle available from Ford is the Maverick with virtually no stock units available and, similar to so many other vehicles, an extremely long OTD (Order to Delivery) timeframe due to the microchip, commodity, plant and supplier constraints. Congratulations to Ford for the Maverick's success but it serves and fills a specific market segment. There's still a good size part of the market, that has no interest or need for a compact pickup, and is forced to competitors' vehicles.
