2024 Mustang Spied

Recommended Posts

The hoodline looks longer to me, but it could be the camo causing that effect.

I would like to see an all-wheel-drive model of this car. I think that would give it a bump in sales in the cold weather states. It would definitely make the vehicle useful to more drivers.

It has been suspected that S650 won't be a radical redesign but more of an evolution of S550 which tracks along with what they're doing with the rest of the lineup, mainly F-series.

I understand that, however, I hope the s650 has its own identity, and character. Hopefully it's not the same thing gm did with the current Camaro, where they made it look basically identical with like one new line. I'm ok with the proportions and general shape being somewhat similar as long as the s650 still looks fresh.

That is my one statement on the matter. I'm not even going to hint one way or the other on what it could be referring to.

I can respect that, no-one wants to put their job at risk over leaking something on a forum. Hopefully whatever changes or plans you're talking about are positive. But I know you probably won't be able to comment on that, which again, is perfectly fine with me. Seems like Ford is going above and beyond with keeping the s650 hush hush, makes me wonder if they're going to have like a c8 moment where they just blow our minds during the reveal. One can hope.

I find the timing to be very.... curious.... and I can't even say why or I risk getting myself in trouble.

I understan your perspective, as it's not easy. I think usually production changes are announced very far in advance, by nearly 2-3 calendar years out.

This vehicle is definitely coming and it's coming to somewhere already established. FRAP, as there's no capacity elsewhere in USA. Canada (Oakville, etc) would cause a backlash.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a spring reveal. The S197 was allegedly first spotted testing, 9 months before NAIAS 2004 reveal. S550, just 6 months.

Dearborn really wanted to keep this one close to vest, so I imagine like the Bronco first "spied" exactly 2 years ago today, they want to reveal it ASAP. Bronco debut was mid March of 2020, before pandemic hit.

Plus, here's a good comparison between the first shots of S550 on June 10, 2013 versus today 8 1/2 years later.

Someone has mentioned this though:

"I've seen what it's near-final form will be. A lot of good things are in store, but there's things that may anger a vocal minority of purists. I'm really excited to see what features make it to market, there were a lot of really cool and interesting possibilities floated.

I would say the structural cell of the passenger compartment is basically unchanged. It's definitely evolutionary, if I were to compare, I might say a change scope similar to the 1999 SN95 refresh"

I personally have heard it's a little more than that, but nothing too drastically different. That "anger a vocal minority" has me thinking, either hybrid, transmission choice, or 4/5 door model.

I don't know man, the take rate for manual mustangs seems to be decent. It's not the majority, but it's a substantial portion of mustang buyers. Not to mention the mt-82 and tremec 6 speed are already developed, and can be used in the s650 with minor tweaks. If the bronco comes with a bespoke manual transmission, I don't understand why Ford would nix it for their sports car. That would be like offering a powerstroke in the explorer, but not in the super-duty.

I have no evidence that the MT is gone, I just thought something like that would really upset purists…….

Perhaps, but I was thinking maybe they're saying things like, the styling is eye-catching, but may annoy purists who only want mustangs to look a certain way. Or perhaps Ford is going to take the maverick route, where they somehow manage to make the standard powertrains hybrids, and customers will have to pay more to get ICE only powertrains. A lot of people would like that, but purists would be pissed about having to pay more to get non hybrid mustangs.

If you don't mind me asking, who were you quoting?
