DETROIT, Sept. 14, 2022 – Ford once again sounds a wake-up call for sports car lovers around the world with the introduction of the all-new Ford Mustang. The seventh generation is the most exhilarating and visceral yet, from its fighter jet-inspired digital cockpit to new advanced turbocharged and naturally aspirated engines to its edgier yet timeless exterior design.

“Investing in another generation of Mustang is a big statement at a time when many of our competitors are exiting the business of internal combustion vehicles,” said Jim Farley, CEO of Ford Motor Company. “Ford, however, is turbocharging its ICE growth plan, adding connected technology, opinionated derivatives, and hybrid options to our most profitable and popular cars – all in the Ford Blue family – on top of investing $50 billion in electric vehicles through 2026.”

The new Mustang adds another chapter to an icon, delivering the looks, sound and appeal of the world’s best-selling sports coupe for seven years running*. 2024 Ford Mustang Interior and Infotainment Review

We will be waiting a bit longer to drive the new 2024 Ford Mustang before it goes on sale this summer. In the meantime, we just had a chance to poke around the interior for an afternoon and test out the new wall of screens this Mustang is rocking. There’s been much ado about the new interior design that does away with most of the hard buttons, but despite the digital transformation, the new Mustang still feels familiar inside.

Just like the Mustang before it, the seating position is a touch too high even in its lowest seat position. Visibility is still way better than the Chevrolet Camaro, but that’s not saying much. Materials quality is about what you’d expect in a Mustang built to a price. Some of the plastics look nicer than before, but this Mustang is not what we’d call luxurious in touch or appearance.

The distinct lack of buttons in the center stack is contrasted by the borderline overwhelming number of buttons on the steering wheel. There are nine each side of the wheel. Even if you count the start/stop and volume knob as “buttons” on the center stack, this area still has less than half the number of controls situated on the steering wheel.

2024 Ford Mustang GT and Dark Horse Get Gas Guzzler and Demand Taxes

GT up $1,000, Dark Horse up $1,300, Dark Horse Premium rises $2,800

https://www.autoblog.com/2023/05/08/2024-ford-mustang-dark-horse-price-increase/

2024 Mustang Dark Horse with Carbon Fiber Wheels.jpg

Ford released pricing for the 2024 Mustang in February. Ford has re-released pricing for certain trims of the 2024 Mustang because the pony car is more expensive thanks to a gas guzzler tax. Threads in the Mustang 7G forum began talking about a gas guzzler tax (GGT) on the coming S650 Mustang after seeing order guides at the end of March. At the time, one poster wrote, "Order guide lists this tax for the manual trans at $1,000 and for the auto at $1,300?" It wasn't until this month that Ford updated pricing on the configurator to reflect the actual changes. The same forum caught the changes, the automaker then confirming to various outlets that the Mustang GT with the six-speed manual has been levied with a $1,000 GGT. The Mustang Dark Horse with the six-speed manual and the ten-speed auto are up by $1,300. The Dark Horse Premium goes up by $2,800, which is the $1,300 GGT plus another $1,500. Ford reps said the larger increase for the Dark Horse Premium is "due to strong demand," on top of the gas guzzler tax.

MSRPs for Mustangs with the EcoBoost four-cylinder don't change, but we're including those prices in the list below. The new sums after the $1,595 destination and their differences from initial pricing are:

  • EcoBoost base: $32,515
  • EcoBoost Premium: $38,040
  • EcoBoost Premium Convertible: $43,540
  • GT: $44,090 ($1,000)
  • GT Premium: $48,610 ($1,000)
  • GT Premium Convertible: $54,110 ($1,000)
  • Dark Horse: $60,865 ($1,300)
  • Dark Horse Premium: $64,860 ($2,800)

Speaking of options, they're more expensive as well on the Dark Horse trim. The Appearance Package rises $250 to $1,500, the Handling Package adds $495 to cost $4,995, and the carbon fiber wheels are $500 more expensive, now running $8,995.

California Special Package Returns to 2024 Ford Mustang GT

The package dates back to 1968

https://www.autoblog.com/2023/11/09/2024-ford-mustang-gt-california-special-package-reveal/

Autoblog.com_2023-11-09_2024 Mustang California Special.jpg

Just ahead of the L.A. Auto Show, Ford has revealed the latest iteration of the Mustang GT California Special. The appearance package has appeared on the last few generations of Mustangs, and it's based on a package that was originally offered in 1968 for California-market cars. So an L.A. debut is more than appropriate.

On the outside, the new GT California Special, also known as the GT/CS, features Rave Blue accents all over, most prominently on the outer intakes of the grille. That grille also features the horizontal slats applied to multiple generations of the package. The Along the sides are black and blue stripes, and the exclusive wheels have blue accents inset of the spokes.

The inside continues the black and blue theme with dark blue and black leather upholstery, as well as blue and gray contrast stitching. The dash gets package-specific branding and unique floor mats protect the carpet.

While the California Special package is only available on the GT Premium trim, there are plenty of other ways to configure the car. It can be had as either a coupe or convertible and with either a manual or automatic transmission. The GT Performance Package can be included, too, and it comes with specific badging. Pricing of course varies based on other equipment, but the California Special package costs an extra $1,995 on top of the price of your Mustang GT Premium. If you want one, Ford is taking orders right now, though exact timing on delivery hasn't yet been announced.
