There needs to be a huge infrastructure upgrade and a way of tracking everything without infringing on privacy. Both are really expensive to figures out short term. Self-driving car is the new hydrogen... perpetually "5 years away" from commercialization. It will never happen the way it has been hyped to do. We will eventually achieve Level 4 in geofenced area but Level 5 is basically impossible. Most car companies, including Tesla's nonsensically named FSD is at Level 2. For non-geofenced application, the best we will ever do is Level 3. Edited October 28, 2022 by bzcat
jpd80
Go back a couple of years and the driving force behind self driving cars was internet companies wanting everyone to keep watching te Internet not the road. The reality is making that happen is neither simple nor close at hand. Im glad that Ford now realises this and is now simplifying its business down to things that matter right now.
