bobbyd
Ford just announced a recall on the Bronco/ Escape 1.5 Engine. Anyone know if it includes all the 2022 vehicles with the1.5? Why doesn't it include the prior 1.5 engines before 2020?

Just a guess, but different fuel injectors?

The recall applies to 3-cylinder 1.5L Dragon engines used since model year 2020 in Escape and model year 2021 in Bronco Sport. Bronco Sport Escape Fuel Injector (ford.com) 4-cylinder 1.5L Sigma engine used in model year 2017 to 2019 Escape is a completely different design that uses different fuel injectors, though Sigma based EcoBoost engines have had major issues with overheating and engine fires over the years.

The website indicated that Vitesco is the responsible supplier. They were spun off by Continental AG a year or so ago! I also read that Continental was trying to spin them off since 2019, but the pandemic delayed the spin off! Now, anyone with the new 1.5.. 3 Cylinder engine will get a software update and a drain tube to keep the fuel away from the hot engine...if the Vitesco fuel injector cracks. Recall letters will be mailed around December 9th. https://cararac.com/blog/ford-1-5-ecoboost-dragon-engine-problems-durability.html Edited November 25, 2022 by bobbyd
