Ford is scaling down VW partnership for EVs

Recommended Posts

Not mentioned here, but one of the more fascinating bits of info was ford talking about how this new ev platform they're developing is super flexible. How it would enable them to use it in a ton a new segments and that nothing was really off the table. Hopefully that means ford will pivot to giving us a wide array of interesting evs. Rather than just doing 38 different crossover models.

Thanks for sharing DeluxeStang, that's great news. Sounds like Ford is applying the totally different approach to BEV design and engineering that it needs to be a leader in the automotive industry of the future.

Priority is definitely on NG BEV F150/Expedition/Navigator, BEV Explorer/Aviator. and next Gen Mach E so compact BEVs are way down the development priority…

The first of CE1 is set to debut at Louisville in 2027 after C2 Escape and Corsair end production ends.

The reason for the delay is that CE1 will be developed after the new Mid Sized platform is completed.

I would suspect that while Louisville gets Bronco Sport, Valencia will probably press forward with an own design Kuga/Escape and Transit Connect as well as maybe a “Focus Active”. Where Ford goes from there globally is anyone’s guess……

Ford also plans to convert its plant in Valencia, Spain, to build software-defined EVs on a new electric architecture, beginning later this decade.

Great news! German companies Daimler (Mercedes) and VW would like nothing better than to destroy Ford. Daimler did it by stealing Ford's newly redesigned class 8 L-series and VW wants to horn in on Ford's successful Transit, which is the best selling commercial vehicle in Europe.  Notice to Ford: Steer clear of German mergers! Did we really win World War II? NO!  German luxury cars and Japanese mainstream sedans have overtaken our American auto industry. Our two biggest enemies in WW II have destroyed the American car mfrs. who built the planes, some jeeps (Ford), 6X6 trucks (GM) and tanks (Chrysler).  You see, Germany and Japan have never forgotten. However, as one VW official said during the VW emissiongate scandal, Americans forget. Sadly, he's right!

I warned you about making xenophobic comments.  It’s not 1945.  You’re welcome to think whatever you want just stop typing it.

VW Group didn't become one of the world's largest auto and truck makers by stealing market share, after WW2 the allies shopped VW around the US and UK automakers and there were no takers. Daimler didn't steal half the big truck market, dumb Ford management in the 90s damn near gave it to them and GM gave Volvo a similar gift. And did Toyota steal market share to challenge Ford and GM for the North American sales crown? No, while we dumped Vega and Pinto on the market they carefully adapted their cars to our needs, to the point of developing a product that was almost unique to North America. Meanwhile, our "Big 2" have all but abandoned the market for not just small cars but cars, period and expect the world to learn to love our massive trucks and SUVs...

VW is like Mazda or Subaru in North America-they are a bit player here in overall sales. VW is much larger in the EU and Asia.

You’re looking backwards, not forwards. VW and Stellantis are in big trouble in home market Europe and in China where up to half of their profit is derived. Their premium compact sales are being stolen by Tesla and those buyers are never coming back. Both brands are acting like zombie corporates, just going through the motions in Europe and China but have no idea how to compete with Tesla, this year will see another major shift with Tesla price reductions taking hold of even more sales.

The world’s love affair with Japanese carmakers seems to be over too, Honda, Nissan and Mazda suffering a huge reversal of fortune while Toyota appears just as clueless as VW and Stellantis. If we go into a serious economic downturn, I don’t think the Japanese government has enough cash reserve to keep its car industry afloat.
