Sherminator98
I think the rear end looks odd because of the graphical camouflage and then the watermark over it. I bet it looks better in bare sheetmetal.

There a bit clearer. Looks a bit better as well to me atleast.

Yes this new generation uses the same “footprint” as the outgoing Expedition and carries over the exterior door panels and roof but virtually everything else on the exterior and interior are new. Did they make any notable changes to drivetrain, powertrain and suspension? Asking for a friend..lol

This seems very much like the 2009 F-150 that was "all new" except for using the same cab and doors - they've kept the doors/roof and everything else goes brand new. Most people won't notice, they'll just see the new front and rear. 1 hour ago, silvrsvt said: I think the rear end looks odd because of the graphical camouflage and then the watermark over it. I'm hoping it'll be more cohesive with additional lighting on the liftgate (I think I do see some character lines that at least hint at that), similar to Explorer to balance it out.

Bob Rosadini
I can't believe that those taillights are the final design. Everyone seems to make a "statement" with taillight design. If those are final, I guess the good news is they are "legal"🙄 I have to say my 23 STX has nice tailights..when they are off! Not like the "bulb package" on the XLT. Or the full width lights on my MKZ. By the way, biggest reason I bought an STX? Love that front grill treatment...gone for 24🤔

The designated refresh occurred with the 2022 model. I hope the interior is a knockout, because there isn’t a significant differentiation between the outgoing model based on what I’ve seen so far. I understand, not making a radical changes to the F150, which is the best selling vehicle in the nation, but that is not the case with the Expedition. If they wanted to surpass the sales of the two GM products in its segment, I felt they needed to make a big splash with the exterior design. So far, I’m not seeing it. There are only so many ways to design a full size box before you start getting bizarre looking.
Dlcorbett
Gm is the only brand to rele nail the design of their fs suvs top to bottom, front to back. Ford had moments of greatness with the 2nd gen suvs, but fell back for the 3rd gen, focusing fully on reliability and utility. The 4th gen nav was and still is one of the best looking suvs on the market, but honestly, they botched the rear of the pre refresh a tad bit. Cheers to the 5th gen, it's looking good, not gm good, but rele good.

That's been an Expedition thing ever since and it helps set it further apart from the Navigator (at least from the side view). They should've done what they did on the Euro Explorer EV and etched the "pillar" into the glass

I understand your point, but it’s concerning me that this feels like a Fusion refresh. I think it is the flat belt line that needed to be changed in order to give it a new appearance, otherwise it’s the same body.

Outside of a few enthusiasts who analyze gory details, nobody is going to think this is the same old model as long as it gets changes to the front, rear and interior. The Fusion was virtually indistinguishable inside and out. This is not a fusion refresh from what I can see.

Andrew L
The 3rd glass has the kick up in a different spot... I am curious if the Navi and Expy will have different 3rd row glass........ OF COURSE though it could be because one is the long wheel base and the other isn't. Something to look out for though.

Pretty much like the F150, the current generation is a reskin of the previous model. Same shape, same size, same beltline. The Expedition needs a lower beltline, but that change is probably too drastic for a reskin. I kinda miss the old Expedition with the lower beltline and larger windows. I've always found it interesting that both GM and Ford decided to go with a higher beltline/smaller greenhouse on the redesign of their fullsize SUVs. As you demonstrated in your post, the Expy in particular traditionally had a larger greenhouse until the current gen. To my eyes, the current gen Expy apes the GM product a little too much in this specific area, to its detriment.

Again, it may just be me but I prefer the higher belt line on both the ford and GM SUVs. To me it looks more upscale and solid especially in black. But of course that’s just personal preference. A lot of people say that the Pacer was the inspiration for the Pontiac Aztek, but they were cool in their own way. in an era of coach lights, opera windows, padded vinyl roofs, crushed velour upholstery, the Pacer grew on me. Always liked them.

What surprised me was the Sequoia. It went from high beltline/smaller windows to lower beltline/ bigger windows. Dlcorbett
The sequoia belt line looks higher than the expys, but the rear windows have a larger surface area and the belt line stays flat, where the expys rises up a bit.
