I have the same issue... Will be going to the dealer on Monday to get my front tag bracket installed and will ask them... BTW, I hate that I live in a state that requires front tags... Talk about messing up a beautiful front grill... 😡

CT has been a 2-plate state for years. However, our dealership has had a longstanding policy to never install the front plate bracket on Mustangs unless the customer specifically requested and approved the front plate bracket installation. Even so, I've never heard of anyone in CT being cited for not having the front license plate installed. MA on the other hand will look for any excuse to write a citation. I was once driving my Mustang GT demo to our MA dealership and got pulled over and cited by a MA State Trooper because the Window Sticker wasn't visible!

I remember being fairly young when MA switched over to front plate required.  My dad's friend who lived in Springfield had an 80s Suburban that didn't have a front plate and I remember my mom asking why he didn't and I think it was cause his registration or what ever wasn't up yet so he was grandfathered in till it was due.  RI was a 2 plate state as long as I can remember.  When I moved to FL with my Lincoln LS I wanted to remove that front plate so badly but knew I would have had to patch the holes so I just got a plate that said Lincoln with the logo on it.

Massachusetts continues to allow the use of a single, rear-mounted 1990's vintage "green" license plate. No front plate is required because "green" plates were issued singly; thus, no front plate was provided.

The only guidance for continued use of a single, rear-mounted "green" plate is that the plate has never expired or been cancelled and that it is legible. Currently, I have three rear-mounted "green" plates in use, and I've never been stopped by law enforcement for not having a front plate.

Here's a snip from the Massachusetts Passenger Plates Manual:
