GM's BrightDrop electric vans to become Chevrolet models

GM moves BrightDrop electric vans to Chevrolet brand to expand customer base

General Motors Co. is bringing its BrightDrop electric commercial vans under the Chevrolet brand in an effort to expand sales beyond delivery companies.

Since commercial customers pay close attention to the overall cost of ownership over the life of the vehicle, EV commercial sales have consistently been seen as a growth opportunity by automakers, who argue that EV products come with lower fuel and maintenance costs.

GM introduced BrightDrop in 2021 at the Consumer Electronics Show as a startup that would bring the company millions in revenue with products focused on servicing delivery companies, including electric vans.

What does this say about the future of GMC? You know...the division that SHOULD be the one taking in BrightDrop?

GMC has been premium to Chevy for some time. Its Cadillac with less bling.

I’ve been wondering if an RV company would use the Brightdrop platform. Seems like it could make a good RV chassis.

why?  Because of their slogan?

GMC has always been the truck division for General Motors....apparently that has changed.

I dunno about that-it seems like its nothing more then just marketing at this point. It might have been 50 years ago.

And how many of these "high quality, very competitive" EVs have GM sold so far this year?

Not enough. GM idled the plant that assembles the vans for 7 months because they couldn't get enough batteries for them. They're now in catch up mode, filling the order backlog. I know FedEx has a fleet of Brightdrop vans and is waiting for more units to be built by GM

Also from the linked article:

Quote

Specifically with respect to its all-electric commercial van, the E-Transit, Ford sold 7,129 of them through July in the United States

Let's see, 7,129 versus 746. Not so great for something  "high quality, very competitive" .

Again, LOL.

I just think the GMC is living on borrowed time with BrightDrop getting a bowtie....

GMC sold 563,000 units in 2023, all trucks and CUVs which are the most profitable things American automakers sell. GM would never end this brand.

That is all well and good, but wouldn't they still sell if they had a bowtie on them as well?? GMC is to GM what Mercury was to Ford.

Maybe, maybe not. One of the marketing big shots for GMC & Buick said, "At GMC we are really the only premium truck and SUV brand. We saw an opportunity we found within the market with more people with active lifestyles, getting out and doing stuff and making the most of things. They need a great vehicle to be able to do that, but what we found is there are some rugged, tough models out there and brands that sell in that space, but no one does it in a premium way and gives you all the creature comforts"
