DeluxeStang
https://fordauthority.com/2025/01/executives-considering-production-ford-raptor-off-road-supercar/ This topic has come up before. They say it wouldn't just be a gt on stilts, but I'd kinda prefer it if it was an actual supercar, with both road and off-road variants. Those Dakar trucks look interesting, but I was wouldn't call them attractive, so hopefully it's not something that takes design inspiration from that. Moosetang
The Dakar truck's look would evolve to fit into road regs so I wouldn't get too hung up on its details. As a broad concept, a fun off-roader wrapped around a 5.0, I think it's exactly what's in store.
akirby
But we already have F150 Raptors and Raptor Rs. If you take the race version and make it street legal with a factory warranty it seems to me it would end up too close to the existing Raptors. Unless I’m missing something. Well, I'm reading between the lines a bit......they've used the Raptor name on Bronco SUV, so it's not a truck-exclusive trim anymore, allowing them to theoretically use the name on other non-truck models. jpd80
I don’t have any opinion on this because I don’t think this type of investment moves the needle for Ford. Well, not like it did in days of old….

Yeah, it's great to have all of these aspirational models, especially if they turn a profit. But if you have too many, cross model sales cannibalization becomes a major issue. It's hard to know what this thing will be. It seems like a no brainer imo if you're gonna do a car like this, do a street and an off-road version, like you have with the 911, to maximize the appeal and range of the model. If Ford wants to do some sort of next gen mid-engine supercar, and offer an off-road version, I say hell yeah. But if this "super car" is just a pumped up raptor r, or a toned down Dakar style thing, I say don't bother.

If this was some sort of truck or SUV, that would be a missed opportunity. I don't know if you guys have seen fan renderings of like lifted Ford gts with rally lights and off-road tires. They look insane, but badass at the same time. These sort of radical off-road supercars seem to have even more limited appeal than road going versions. So if they were gonna do something like this, just do a road version as well.
T-dubz
Are they talking about something crazy like the local motors rally fighter? Or something more sedated like the 911 Dakar?
Harley Lover
There's the other thread titled 'Ford want to be the Porsche of Off Road'... if Ford literally follows the 'Porsche model' then they will unquestionably prove their chops in the world of (off road) Racing. As with Porsche, that could be something directly related to its road going models (F150, Bronco, Mustang) or it could be something more in the realm of prototype/purpose built racer. It all depends on how the decision makers view the purpose of the vehicle (win on Sunday/sell on Monday or demonstrate Ford's technical prowess if the off road realm but with a purpose built vehicle). There was a time where Ford valued the learning its engineers derived from the world of racing/competition, and believed that experience and exposure benefited the company in the development of its consumer vehicles. Perhaps there's a belief that working on chassis and suspension (and other areas) for off road competition will feed back into Ford's development processes in a beneficial manner - and support Ford's desire to be 'the Porsche of Off Road'. I am always suspect of any car maker invoking another car maker in their quest to be better than said car maker....you want to be the best...be the best...make Porsche want to be "the Ford of <insert leading segment product here>"
bzcat
I'm picturing something with mid mounted engine with hybrid setup and AWD. Probably with monster suspension travel but sits fairly low. It will probably be purpose built like Ford GT.
