Dlcorbett
I havent driven the nav yet, but an expy i drove rode almost exactly like the competitors with air suspension Edited April 25 by Dlcorbett
rmc523
It's nice to see that Ford is jumping on the bandwagon of using the camera for blindspot monitoring: On a related note, I saw my first 2025 Expedition at lunch today and it looks good, but looks very tall/upright from behind with all styling elements being vertical and narrow. The random lights in the liftgate still look tacked on/unintegrated.
akirby
I don’t understand why people want blind spot cameras. You have to look at and interpret what’s on the camera whereas with the yellow light it only takes a very quick glance.

And a lot of folks don’t want the cost both upfront and down the road in maintenance. That said I don’t blame GM for offering it if enough folks are willing to buy it. Technology just for technology's sake isn't always a good thing.

I look at it more in the sense that the camera is already there for the 360 view system, why not also use it for blind spot viewing? Remember, not everyone has the mirrors angled properly (a camera would be fixed in the correct view on the mirror), and may not pay attention to a blinking light (counterintuitive, I know). Again, if it's already there, why not use it?
rmc523
I do think they make a mistake in not having the backup camera take up more real estate on the display in some fashion.

Some people seem to want technology for the sake of having technology, it's weird. Instead of having tech for tech's sake, they need to ask what's the best solution for the job. Sometimes it's even less tech and complexity than what you already have.

Yeah that's not ideal. Maybe they were concerned about the aspect ratio and didn't want the image to be stretched and distorted horizontally? The Expy looks ok overall but I agree that the back is very weird with that black piece and the random lights

Agree, also I think they can improve the camera, a lot of competitors have a 3d option. I also think the map section could take up more space in the display

Sometimes, the blind spot warning in The mirror can be drowned out in intense sunlight. Also, the image takes away the mirror guess work of where an object is relative the vehicle when turning or lane switching. Lastly, since we tested the ultimate with 24in wheels, it's nice to be able to see if your about to curb check your rear wheels.

There was a long tunnel somewhere that required headlights and there was a restaurant on one side of the tunnel. Folks would stop to eat in the daytime and forget their lights were on (this was before autolamps) and come out to a dead battery. The state looked at several high tech solutions including elaborate sensors and other complicated and expensive technologies. In the end they simply put up a sign that said “Are your lights on?” 1

Many have complained about Navigator not having tech that competitors do. This is an example of a feature they did put in that competitors have. I revert to the tech is there, why not use it and equal competitors? If you don't like the feature, just look at the mirror like you normally would. Yeah, I know the ratio is unfortunately what limits it....and Ford seems obsessed with maintaining the backup camera on the left, 360 immediately to its right layout (obviously it can't be changed here, but on examples with a vertical screen like outgoing Explorers or LIghtnings, instead of making both huge one on top of the other, they keep them horizontally placed. It was odd how tall it looked between slimmer taillights , shorter glass, and design elements being pushed to the upper liftgate to accommodate the split tailgate design. T-dubz
I like those cameras. If kias and Hyundais have them then so should ford. More visibility is better and you could use it in conjunction with the blind spot monitoring system.
Andrew L
I remember test driving a Honda that had the blind spot cameras years ago when I was shopping for my 13 MKZ Hybrid and I really like that feature. It adds more visibility. Glad to see others adding this feature.

I got a ride in a fairly loaded Hyundai Santa Fe and found the views for the camera when using turn signals to be very distracting even from the passenger seat. Not sure I'd want that as an option-I get a 360 camera when parking, but otherwise, nah.
