Yes, the BYD Sealion 6 is a good package which means that anything seen as less

value will struggle. I think Territory would work in Australia but understand that it

would be fighting against established competition as well as newer Chinese brands.

Ford needs a hybrid utility to go up against RAV4 which is romping away with sales.

China-sourced Fords tend to still cost more than similarly equipped Chinese-branded models.
Ford launched a PHEV version of the Equator Sport (Territory) and it costs more than its BYD-rival which is priced like the non-hybrid Equator Sport (Territory).

A new global Escape model that looked more SUV-like, offered better interior room and offered more utility, it might just work. Without the 2-row Edge, Ford can move the Escape up a bit in terms of sizing.  For markets in Asia and South America that need something cheaper, the Territory can fill the lower C-segment space.

In China, the JMC-built Equator Sport (Territory) is positioned below the Changan-built Escape. The Chinese Ford Escape has no entry-level base trim, all trims get the 2.0 EcoBoost, even the FWD models. In terms of pricing, only the Equator Sport PHEV models overlap with the Escape.

Chang'an Ford has been purged of all lower end models. Escort and Focus were discontinued last year and so was the cheaper Escape. I'm not sure 2.0T Escape will survive in China after this year either. Farley was planning to kill the model worldwide - seems like US production got a reprieve for one more year but not so sure about China, Spain and Taiwan production.

Basically, Ford has been growing Jiangling Ford products and pruning Chang'an Ford products. I think it may have something to do with how the JVs are setup. Ford seems to have more control over what goes on at Jiangling Ford.

Ford actually owns 32% of JMC. It's also interesting that the JMC-Ford JV is more independent than the Changan-Ford JV. They have their own JMC-Ford-specific platforms and engines.

Right, Ford owns 32% of JMC and 49% of Jiangling Ford so technically it owns just shy of 2/3 of Jiangling Ford. This is what I refenced in how the two JV are setup.

It seems to me that Ford is launching new products it wants to sell in China locally to the Jiangling Ford JV while just keeping the Chang'an Ford to produce cars for export. As Chang'an models age out, they are not replaced - e.g. Fiesta, Escort, EcoSport, Taurus, Focus, S-Max etc. and Escpae is likely to follow that trend.

I posted earlier in this thread that Ford made a media presentation on the future of its SUV line up and there was no mention of any models from the Chang'an side.

About keeping Changan for exports. The only Changan-Ford exported is the Mondeo where it's badged as the Taurus in the Middle East. The most exported Ford model from China is the JMC-Ford Equator Sport, where it's badged as the (new) Territory for export markets. Unlike the Changan-Ford-built sedan, the Territory is sold in LHD Southeast Asian markets, South Africa (first RHD market), Middle East, Mexico, and South America.

Mondeo and Lincoln Nautilus.

Territory has been largely been limited to export to middle income countries that Ford doesn't consider key markets. With Ford Taiwan starting production of Territory, I'm sure it points to the model making its way to other high income countries to replace Kuga/Escape - e.g. Australia is probably going to get it sooner or later.

Ford Australia is most likely waiting until 2026 when our new low sulphur

fuels become available, Ford Europe stopped making the Euro 5 specific Puma

so that dried up sales in Australia until after Christmas when we get Euro 6 version.

So hoping Territory comes when the new fuel is available.

It's China exporting RHD Territory units to South Africa though, makes sense if they would also be the ones to export the new Territory to other potential RHD markets. I believe JMC-Ford has the extra capacity to produce more export models.

Not even sure if Ford in Taiwan exports vehicles.

I wasn't implying Ford Taiwan will be exporting RHD Territory. I'm just saying Ford Taiwan is probably developing a version for high income countries - e.g. potentially high grade interior materials, better noise isolation, Carplay and Android Auto compatible infotainment, different exterior trims etc. Taiwanese customers' expectation are more in line with Australia and New Zealand than for example South Africa or Philippines.

Ford Taiwan did export plenty of vehicles in the past, including the Gen 1 Escape and Tribute to Australia/NZ/Russia/Japan in the 2000s, Mondeo, Econovan and Mazda 3 and Bongo to LHD APAC markets in the 1990 and 2000s, and Mercury Tracer to Canada in the 1980s.

Current export market models have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The new Territory's interior isn't cheap at all.

Ford in China has the capacity to handle production for both domestic and export models. Ford is also positioning China as an export hub alongside Ford Thailand which currently focuses on body-on-frame models. Ford used to export some models from Taiwan back in the day before Ford started exporting from China.

PS: It seems that Ford it is still interested in turning India into an export hub after it put its India-made BEV plans on ice.

Ford's India plan is cancelled, again.

Is is dated April fool's day. Are we sure this is real?

Eh, that doesn't really seem like a thing you'd make an April Fools article out of (usually those are more of the goofy sort like a convertible F-150 or something).
