rmc523
Nissan Takes A Leaf From The Z For Its Mass Market EV | Carscoops Kinda looks like a bloated Model Y in profile......guess it doesn't look like a science project anymore at least. I don't understand the taillight graphics.....why have 2 horizontal elements on the hatch with 3 vertical ones on the body? looks like an afterthought/parts from 2 different cars put on.....guess they took inspiration from the new Expedition there lol. The big shots at Nissan say it's about how the numbers "2" and "3" are pronounced in the Japanese language: Throughout the car, Nissan designers incorporated “2-3" iconography consisting of two rectangles paired with three perpendicularly aligned rectangles. This references the company's name, with “2-3" pronounced “ni-san" in Japanese
tbone
Better looking than the last effort, however i’m not a big fan of the current design language of there front facia in this or the other new Nissans.

rmc523
I guess only the top trim gets that setup, here's the look for the other trims, which looks cheap.

Yea, only the top trim (Platinum+) gets the 2-3 iconography 3D holographic LED taillights. Thanks for the picture of the LEAF S+ trim. I agree its taillight design looks cheap. The steel wheels with plastic covers are el cheapo too
twintornados
Everybody is screaming, "I want a cheap car" (aka, the mythical $20,000 EV) but when a company actually does it and puts out a cheap car (steelies with plastic covers, simple taillight design, no frills interior) everybody bitches about it.

Some Teslas have plastic covers over aluminum wheels. Don’t see much wrong with steel if covered anyway. 😀 This Leaf is definitely not a $20k car, so we’ll have to see if worth getting excited about based solely on price. It would not surprise me at all if MSRP is higher than previous Leaf given battery is larger, has more power, and charges much faster. Just don't see Leaf as a “cheap-car” effort from Nissan. IMO $20K EV is possible but would have to be significantly smaller and more energy efficient, and also much simpler. Apparently not much demand for such a vehicle, or so experts say. I know this all too well as a maverick owner. Everyone bitches about the interior being hard plastic on a hybrid truck that I spent 28k on, it's insane. I've said everyone says they want a 20k car, but what they really want is a 50k car a brand can magically sell for 20.

It could still be hard plastic but at least it wouldn't be black. The other thing that is a letdown for me anyway is, often when beige/tan/bone is offered, it's just the seats, all the rest of the interior is still black. Personally I hate tan or light colored dashes. They tend to reflect more in the windshield and fade more over time. I love the combo in our Nautilus with black/dark grey dashes and carpet with ceramic seats.

I bought a 2025 Maverick AWD Lariat hybrid for 38K and love it...has all the tech I want, was affordable to me and I enjoy it immensely. I don't mind the interior at all. Yeah, apparently merger talks with Honda and Mitsubishi ended, but according to Car and Driver they still plan to work together on software and electrified cars. Would personally love to see Honda and Nissan collaborating on a modern-day version of Honda CRX using Nissan EV technology. May be a good way to build an affordable EV that was also exciting, to part of the market anyway. Honda also had experience with Insight which was extremely efficient, a feature critical for EV success IMO. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a63784353/honda-nissan-partnership-talks-ended/

I don't mind the interior at all. It's a little noisy at times, but that's it. For the price point, it's not a bad interior, especially on things like our 28k XLT hybrid. I actually really like the orange accents with the navy color and white highlights, it shouldn't work, yet it does imo. I'm just happy to see a car interior that's not afraid to be bold and quirky again.

Car and Driver speculate/estimate it will start significantly higher than present Leaf. To go considerably cheaper (lower cost than 2025 model) would likely require a much smaller vehicle. Apparently Nissan decided to take Leaf more upmarket, not down. Perhaps that will leave more room under Leaf for a cheaper City Car model similar to Fiat 500e in size; though that doesn’t seem likely to me. https://www.caranddriver.com/nissan/leaf-2026

rmc523
Nissan Says We Made A Mistake With New Leaf’s Taillights | Carscoops Nissan is claiming the image of the lower level Leaf models was incorrect, and that all models will get a black rear panel, but only the top trim will have the fancy taillights:
Rick73
17 minutes ago, morgan20 said: Yea, if you want a $20k new Nissan EV, go to Japan and buy one of these: Thanks for info. Best selling EV in Japan with nearly 50% market share; had no idea but not surprised given $15,400 starting price. 👍 Motor Trend test and article is very positive for what it is, though it does not seem viable for US market because of tiny size and lack of safety in a crash with our huge vehicles. What I like best is that basic specs confirm that a sporty 2-seater similar to Honda CRX, sold 40 years ago in US, could have close to 200 miles of range with a battery as small as 30~32 kWh, which would help keep price under $25k. The Sakura is very narrow but tall, and if proportions were wide and low like a sports car, and also with much better aerodynamics of a sloping roofline, energy efficiency and therefore range could be improved significantly. https://www.motortrend.com/reviews/2024-nissan-sakura-kei-car-first-drive-review Since Nissan and Honda have agreed to cooperate on future projects, I would love to see them develop an affordable modern CRX using knowledge gained from ultra-efficient first generation Honda Insight.
