Ford will reveal CE1 products on August 11th

Recommended Posts

There's a chance we'll see a whole family of products at this event as well. I say chance because they might just reveal the truck and then vaguely talk about other future product plans. Who else is buying Ford stock leading up to this event lol?

I'm pretty excited, hopefully they didn't botch the styling, that's gonna be the biggest deal for me.

Yea, same here. Just the fact that we'll hear about something tangible from the CE1 project is a big deal.

Since Jimbo is callin' the August 11th announcement a Model T moment for us at Ford, he best demonstrate that Ford has its 'A' game ready for EV. This is Ford's opportunity to make up for the lack of new product since I bought my F-150 Lightning in 2022. Don't disappoint us Jimbo!

I'm thrilled, finally we get to see it instead of just hear about it. I'm expecting the styling to be pretty radical considering Farley as said they won't look anything like what people expects and he doesn't know how they'll react. He has said these small affordable EVs won't look like generic toasters on wheels, so that's promising.

They're either gonna look awesome, or look like shit lol.

Yea, that's a risk Ford needs to take. The article you shared stated:

Ford's EV efforts have struggled lately. It only has three EVs in its portfolio: the Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning and the E-Transit van. At the same time, General Motors has scaled up its EV lineup to nearly a dozen models, with Chevrolet now becoming America's second-best-selling EV brand this year, only behind Tesla.

With Tesla also strugglin' lately, Ford has a golden opportunity to turn things around and maybe even become the #1 EV brand in America in a few years if CE1 products are as revolutionary as the head honcho claims.

I have one advise for Farley... don't make the same mistake you did in Europe with Focus and Fiesta nameplates.

Introduce the new CE1 EV and call it Escape and Maverick. Don't flush your brand loyalty down the toilet. Those nameplates can be both ICE and EV... customers don't care. Just let them buy the one they want.

Or both, depending on who you ask.  The problem with radical designs is that they can be polarizing, so some may love it while others hate it.  The fact that Farley can’t predict reaction suggests to me it’s quite unusual.  Let’s hope majority like it.

Maybe the Cybertruck has eased the thoughts of radical design, anything after that angled paradox

is going to look respectable. I’m changing my POV to cautious but wonder if America is now ready…

Not a model T moment, I’d call it more like a Taurus moment, different enough to swat the competition.

I have my expectations set really low on this-I hope they can pull it off.

IMO for it to be successful, it needs to hit the following:

Starting price around 30K

300 mile range no more then 40K

Offer the same usability as the Escape/Maverick and look good

Even with that I wonder how strong the demand will be with all the changes with EV credits etc recently.

It’s a little confusing depending on which source one reads.  Some sources report Ford is revealing plans, not a vehicle, though a meeting for just that doesn’t make much sense IMO.  Not competing in mass market against South Korean and Japanese brands, but rather sticking to trucks and SUVs seems even more significant to me.  So much for low-cost vehicles, particularly cars.  Should listen to earnings call for full context but will just wait until 11th.

CEO Jim Farley announced an event on August 11 in Kentucky, where Ford will share more details about its “plans to design and build breakthrough electric vehicles in America.”

Farley said on the company’s earnings call that Ford is not looking to compete with South Korean and Japanese brands in the mass market EV space, but rather what the company is known for best — trucks and SUVs. The company will utilize LFP batteries manufactured in Michigan to reduce costs.

Never underestimate the ability of the press to obfuscate information given to them.

So lots of reading into things-Here is a transcript from the earnings call:

Model E delivered a significant margin improvement in the quarter as a team continued to scale operations as we more than doubled the volume in Model E, while also lowering the material cost and driving other operational efficiencies. On August 11, that will be a big day for all of us at Ford. We will be in Kentucky to share more about our plans to design and build a breakthrough electric vehicle and a platform in The US. This is a Model T moment for us at Ford, a chance to bring a new family of vehicles to the world that offer incredible technology, efficiency, space and features.

Is the single line that everyone is reading into

Yea, I'm excited for the announcement on August 11 but my B.S. detector will be set to max that day. 😄

Back in 2022 when REVC started production, Billy Boy said this about F-150 Lightning:

This moment is every bit as important to the company as when the Model T first started rolling off the assembly line

Jimbo did the "Model T moment" too when he spoke at REVC:

The Model T changed the world not because it was beautiful or slick, but because it was ingenious. Our customers found ways of using the Model T for all sorts of things that no one predicted at the time like school buses and ambulances. Some enterprising folks took off the back to make the world’s first pickup trucks.

With the F-150 Lightning, I believe Ford is tapping into the same spirit of innovation that fueled the early models my grandfather worked on.

A few thoughts on this....

1)  It'd be a very Ford thing to hype this up when it's just "here's our plan" (again) and then not show actual product.

2) I'm cautiously optimistic.  It sounds great from what's been described, but since we've also heard about it so long, I'm safeguarding myself of potentially being disappointed

3) those renderings are laughable

Couldn't agree more, the cybertruck definitely pushed the limits, anything less radical than that is gonna be less polarizing. Out of curiosity, have you had a chance to see the CE1 designs yet internally?

My guess is that Ford will release additional details about the platform but not pictures. The truck is still 2 years from being on sale. Why show it now? It would be old news by the time it is available to buy.

So, here's a Farley interview...

Watch Ford CEO on Earnings, EV Offerings, Tariffs - Bloomberg

A few highlights:

Farley specifically mentioned EREVs on "3-row crossovers like Explorer and some of our trucks", and talked about 100 miles of EV driving, but still making a 700 mi trip.

He said on August 11, quote "show everyone the platform".........so we'll have to see if that actually includes the bodies or not.

He reiterated Ford's focus on the low end, super affordable EVs, and commercial business with urban duty cycles, as opposed to big expensive EV models.

He said he views larger more expensive models are going more hybrid than EV.

No, just a few hints, possibly short hood to make use of different packaging

but may not be as extreme as I previously imagined, I’m coming around…

I agree, especially after hearing Farley's interview that I just posted.  He called out "show everyone the platform", and didn't mention actual vehicles.

I'm guessing we'll see the "skateboard" and they'll talk about how we can put xyz bodies on it.

That said, it wouldn't be the first time Ford shows a vehicle and has an excessively long gap between debut and on-sale date.
