Tied for first, also with demand from 43% of consumers intending to buy a new car in the next three years, is a more common ADAS feature, rear automatic emergency braking. Falling into the Driver Assistance category in the study, that feature is defined in the survey as "when approaching an obstacle while reversing, the system will alert the driver while braking the vehicle to prevent moving further rearward and colliding with the obstacle."

In all seriousness, I didn't even know this existed...but at the same time, I'm lucky to be going 5 MPH or less when I'm backing up. I can see it being useful in a parking lot, but at the same time pay attention to what is going on around you!

Our Mach-E has this.  We sometimes drive to the end of the driveway (1/4 mile) to drop our daughter off for the bus.  We back into the field, which is tall grass if it hasn't been baled recently.  It's pretty scary when it just slams the breaks on when it senses the grass as an obstacle and slams your head into the headrest!

Yes, the false alarms can be quite shocking.

Actually, come to think of it, my mom's Explorer had this feature, and I didn't like it at all - it would detect palm fronds or something behind the vehicle and slam on the brakes while you were trying to back up.

Samesies, only we don't have palm fronds here in MO.
