tbone
Not much more to say about this, but I’m putting it out here because decontenting disgusts me. Perhaps we need to have an ongoing thread about Ford decontenting that all of related content can be dumped into. I might add, it is losing more than the armrest. I do enjoy the comments, which typically involve the hack Farley though. https://fordauthority.com/2025/09/2026-ford-maverick-xlt-ditches-rear-armrest/
danglin
This crap has been going on for years. Do not see it ending anytime soon...
Sherminator98
Quote Instead, the 2026 Maverick XLT gets the Ford Integrated Tether System (FITS) cupholders as standard. The cupholder inserts are designed to fit in the FITS receivers that are built into the rear of the center console and under the back seat. Note that second-row armrests with integrated cupholders are still standard on the 2026 Ford Maverick Lariat, Lobo, and Tremor trims. twintornados
OMG!! They got rid of the rear armrest on the XL...the absolute horror!!!! I am more surprised they don't come out with an XL with the 1.5L Ecoboost as the new base powertrain.... Most likely because it wouldn't make sense to add more complexity to the build and drive down prices by coming out with a cheaper model that wouldn't have as much demand. It would be a fleet queen for sure and maybe that is the reason FoMoCo won't do it....XL trim 1.5L 3 cyl EB with an 8 speed auto FWD would rule the auto parts stores delivery fleets for sure....

You shouldn’t have to jump up to the Lariat to get something that adds basic comfort to rear passengers in a model with likely the highest sales numbers. The XL is fine, but not the XLT on my opinion.

DeluxeStang
So do they mean the center pull down cupholder in the middle that can double as an armrest, or part of the door panel? I can attest as a maverick owner you don't use it very often, but it's a nice feature to have.

Like your reasoning except for engine choice that won’t save much anyway. If going after “auto parts stores delivery fleets” and other budget conscious buyers, why not just use a 2.3L NA engine for even lower ownership costs? Kind of like popular Rangers in the 90s? And while on cheap fleet vehicles, why not get rid of back seat altogether, not just armrest and cup holders? Most delivery guys drive solo. A single cab with adequate storage behind seats may do quite well at right price. 😀

Dequindre
They did this on the Escape SE a few years ago too. It's such a bad reflection on Ford and probably part of the reason why the Rav4 and CR-V are eating the Escape's lunch. It just isn't as comfortable for rear passengers.
