Bad News For The F Series

There is no option for Ford but to have their supplier import aluminum sheet until the US plant is back online.

Not doing so means that Ford looses too much profit, they cannot go six months without F Series production.

And again, political pressure on the Donald will be great.  I'm surprised  the lady in the Statehouse hasn't been making a lot of noise😎

According to the Wall Street Journal, The Blue Oval informed workers at the Kentucky Truck Plant that it will be pausing production of the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator this week, due to issues with its aluminum supply chain. This pause is currently slated to last one week, according to that memo, but the automaker is also pulling forward scheduled downtime from later in the year to compensate.

Ford F-150 Production Cut In Half At Dearborn Assembly Plant

According to Automotive News, production of the Ford F-150 at the Dearborn Truck plant has been cut by more than half as a result of this aluminum shortage, in fact. The Blue Oval reportedly told its suppliers that it plans to build around 530 Ford F-150 pickups daily at the plant until October 27th, which is around 55 percent lower than its typical levels. Ford has already paused production of several other models as a result of this fire, but now, it’s impacting the automaker’s most important vehicle.

I wonder if this going to impact the best selling nameplate record that the F-series has.

Well, luckily as of Q3, they have a 66,101 unit lead over Silverado.  But yeah, this could potentially impact that if it lasts too long.

The article said half capacity until Oct. 27.....I don't know if that means after that they might be back to normal?  Or hopefully it doesn't mean that they'll have to cut further at that point.....

I'd imagine they'd cut anything else using aluminum and funnel it to F-series to prioritize holding that record before losing it, though.

Hopefully Ford will be able to source aluminum from another supplier. Even if it does require paying tariffs. That’s an incredible sales streak to risk for a short term production and profit issue.

Yeah, they have to be looking at contingencies...

They must’ve had contingency plans for something like this, they just take time to implement. There’s no way they could tolerate that level of risk without some kind of backup plan.

You would be shocked at how many companies don't, because it costs more money to do so. But hopefully this isn't the case with Ford.
