Ford COULD be revealing a new GT in January.

That's the theory people are running with in this article. Whatever it is, there's apparently some sort of all new sports car/ super car model that's gonna be revealed at their motorsports event on January 15th.

I don't want to get my hopes up too much, but if something is coming, be it a new mustang model, a gt, this off-road supercar, whatever it is, that's exciting.

I seriously doubt...its people just reading into things to make news and get paid by idiots clicking adverts.

So if you don't believe it's a new halo supercar, what do you believe it is? All Ford said was it's an all new road performance car. Ford's been known to stretch the definition of all new quite a bit, so maybe it's a gt 500, or that modified GTD we saw running around. Most of us wouldn't considered a more extreme GTD all new, but ford might.

From today's Detroit News (paywall):

"Ford Motor Co.'s racing division will launch its highly anticipated 2026 season in January during the Detroit Auto Show, featuring a sneak peek at a new Ford Racing production road car and Red Bull's Formula 1 teams that are returning Ford to F1 after a 22-year hiatus.  Ford's Michigan Central Station will host the invite-only event on Jan. 15 that will be livestreamed on its website. The Detroit Auto Show at the Huntington Place conference center about two miles from the former train depot kicks off Jan. 14 with media and industry days and the Charity Preview followed by the consumer show running Jan. 17-25.   The event will feature race car drivers, employees, dealers, media team owners and fans with content stretching from NASCAR to Mustang endurance sports car racing and off-road teams. Additionally, there'll be more information on Ford's hypercar debut in 2027. The new Ford Racing road car also will demonstrate how the company is integrating innovations in racing to its products, the company said."

They didn't say "all new", they said "new"......I think it's just that more extreme GTD-R or whatever they're going to call it.

Nope the actual Ford press release said All-New.

For the first time ever, fans worldwide will also get an exclusive sneak peek at an all-new Ford Racing production road car – a testament to how deeply we’re integrating our racing innovation into the vehicles you drive every day. The racetrack is our ultimate proving ground, fast-tracking developments that will soon be under the hood and in the chassis of your next Ford.

To me this says it’s not a Mustang or a new GT.  It doesn’t sound like a Dakar rally Mustang.  Maybe they’re finally going head to head with Corvette with a hybrid mid engine car. - basically a cheaper GT.  Not sure what else makes sense.

I missed that.

Meh, I'll believe it when I see it.

They also call the Expedition/Navigator and F-150 "all new" when they share the outgoing door stampings/cab structure.

Good point.  Maybe it’s a reworked GT with a hybrid V8 and active aero and suspension.

I thought the engine bay was designed for the 3.5 EB only/the V8 wouldn't fit?

I don't know if I see them rehashing the outgoing GT, considering Multimatic is now building the GTD.

That Dakhar style off-road supercar thing that keeps getting mentioned is also likely as there's a clear motorsports connection there. A cheaper mid-engine car would be awesome, but part of me has started to lose faith in the idea.

The Ford quote above mentions a race track, though, so leads me to believe it's an on-road vehicle.

Guess it depends on the definition of race track lol.

That’s why I eliminated it but like you say Ford is very liberal with definitions.

Yes it was that’s why I said reworked.  Wouldn’t be that hard to modify it especially since it doesn’t need to fit race regulations.

There was that gt prototype years ago that people claimed was making V8 noises. Maybe that was Ford either testing a V8 powered gt, or using it as a mule for a more affordable mid-engine V8 model.

Based on what we know, it seems like the vehicle they'll reveal will be one of the following.

- A new gt 500 or that revised GTD, not "all new" but I guess that's how they'll try to spin it.

- A mustang raptor or sedan, as we've heard about both of these rather extensively.

- The Dakhar inspired off-road supercar, which sounds like an RS 200 revival to me, but time will tell if it's an actual supercar or just a lifted suv with supercar levels of performance.

- A new gt halo supercar to capitalize on the return to the top class of endurance racing, maybe using a performance hybrid powertrain inspired by their experiences with F1.

- An affordable mid-engine model as suggested by Akirby, frankly the most exciting option here imo.

I'm hoping for a Mustang sedan, as that's the one option I'd actually be in the market for a few years from now.  I'm not sure where a new GT or mid-engine car would be built.  Do all roads lead to Flat Rock?

There was a mystery product scheduled to be built at flat rock so that's a real possibility.

Though they're awesome, I'd honestly be sort of disappointed if they just came out with the same GT with a wider engine bay/V8.

While I'm a fan of a Mustang Sedan, that doesn't sound like it would be targeted as a Ford Racing product-it would be more like a Grand Tourer or Personal luxury car.

But in the grand scheme of things where are the bread and butter products that Ford desperately needs?

That was the actual LeMans hypercar race car.

Maybe it’s a street legal version of that? I can’t see it being any variant of a mustang, 4 door or otherwise. It could be a completely new GT, but I don’t see ford developing both the hyper car and a new GT at the same time.

unless one is helping to pay for the other?
