Wouldn't it be great if it were Ford announcing these specifics?

Toyota Motor North America will invest $912 million in five U.S. assembly and component plants to boost its production capacity for vehicles equipped with hybrid powertrains, a technology it pioneered three decades ago.

The investments — spread across existing plants in West Virginia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee and Missouri — are expected to result in an additional 252 jobs, the automaker announced Nov. 18. They are part of what Toyota said would be $10 billion in additional U.S. investments in mobility through the end of the decade.

West Virginia

Toyota’s component plant in Buffalo, W.Va., will receive $453 million to increase output of four-cylinder, hybrid-compatible engines, hybrid transaxles and rear motor stators, beginning in 2027, Toyota said.

Kentucky

Toyota’s massive Georgetown Assembly plant will receive $204.4 million for a new machining line for hybrid-compatible engines, with expanded production coming online in 2027, the automaker said. An additional 82 jobs are expected from the investment

Mississippi

The automaker’s assembly plant in Blue Springs, Miss., will receive $125 million to begin producing hybrid Corollas, which had previously been imported from Japan.

Tennessee

Toyota’s Tennessee castings plant is slated to receive a $71.4 million investment to increase production of transaxle cases and housings, as well as engine blocks for hybrid vehicles. Three new production lines are planned, coming online as soon as 2027, Toyota said, increasing the plant’s capacity by 500,000 annually.

Missouri

Toyota will invest $57.1 million into its 32-year-old casting plant in Troy, Mo., for a new manufacturing line to expand cylinder head production, increasing its 2 million-plus annual capacity by about 10 percent.
