My guess is maybe the Cobra name is iffy territory with Shelby, so they didn't use that.

Or long shot they trademarked the cobra name for if they want to bring back the actual cobra clay model that we saw awhile back.

I guess it's possible.  I personally doubt the business case for something like that, unless it's perhaps built like the GT on its own line/by Multimatic with a high price tag.

Toyota and BMW had to JV the Supra and Z4 just to make the numbers work.

Ford owns rights to Cobra for Mustangs.  AC Cobra owns it for vintage  Cobras.  As far as I can tell Shelby doesn't own anything.

My guess is it would ride on the mustang chassis to make it feasible from a cost standpoint. I don't necessarily believe it's coming, just speculating on what Ford could be doing behind the scenes. They're trademarking these names and doing design studies for them which implies they're at least entertaining the idea imo.

The Ford Motor Company factually owns the trademark COBRA for all automobiles and has since 1963.  Moreover, Ford also owns the Cobra emblem and any iteration of.  Shelby has zero ownership in COBRA.

Ford licenses Shelby to use the COBRA mark on roadster models only -.

Aside from using the COBRA mark on the roadster, Shelby cannot use the COBRA marks on goods / merchandise.  While I was at Shelby, Ford made us discontinue all usage of the COBRA mark on apparel, drinking glasses, etc.

Ford also owns the "tiffany" emblem, which was used on the side fenders of the 2007-2014 GT500s.  Shelby was only allowed to use that logo provided it appeared with the "Shelby" or "GT500" mark.  On the other hand, Ford could not use the "Shelby" or "GT500" mark with the tiffany snake logo with paying Shelby licensing fees.

The only snake logo, which Ford didn't really didn't contest was the one used on the 1969 Shelby Mustang GTs - internally, at Shelby we called this logo the "Drunk" or "Twisted" snake (photo below).  Ironically, Shelby didn't have anything to do with the 1969 model year.

As a side note, Ford does not own the GT350, GT500 or GT500KR "King of the Road" marks.

I already liked the looks, but with this painted front bumper option, hot damn.

I actually wouldn't mind if this front end was the inspiration for the s650 facelift, or s750 redesign. It really conveys that clean, but sharp look that fits the mustang so well. I believe Akirby said he would like the next mustang to be inspired by the '69-70 bodystyle which I can get behind. I could see a similar front end to this working well with that sort of design.

I don’t follow mustang, but I’m curious as to what the Mustang crowd’s thoughts are on the Dark Horse? Do fans hold it in the same regards as Cobras, Boss, Bullitt, Mach 1, etc? I wonder why they chose to name this dark horse too? With the bumper now painted in the newest pictures, it doesn’t bear much resemblance to the Dark Horse at all. I think using one of the other available mustang names would have been better instead of now having two dark horses.

As I said before, "Dark Horse SC" is a meh name, IMO.

I like it better with the body color bumper than the leaked images of the blacked out bumper.  I don't like how the upper grill has an angle to it that doesn't match the surrounding intakes....it just seems out of place.

It's not bad......thinking about it more, I think my lukewarm feelings on the current gen Mustang's design causes me to be less enthusiastic about this product, coupled with the strange name.

Where's that from?

The front grille/detailing looks like the last gen with the current gen door handle/hip photoshopped on lol.

Tire, Motor vehicle, Automotive design, Yellow, Vehicle, Automotive lighting, Automotive tire, Hood, Headlamp, Car,

I got it off facebook-juggernaut performance, I think. They released stuff on the Dark horse SC early yesterday and have done it with other thing too.

it’s supposed to be shown off at 7PM EST with the Ford Performance launch.
