North American Ford Ranger Tremor Arrives Later This Year

Recommended Posts

Looking at the dimensions of the Maverick, Ranger and F-150 you can see that the current Ranger doesn’t split the difference very well. The Ranger is much closer in size to the Maverick than the F-150.

Growing the size of the F-100 by several inches will position it more equally between them and achieve what @jpd80 is talking about. This makes sense to me.

I've never liked the dimensions on the current ranger, especially the crew cab.

I am disappointed in the lack of extended cab pickups with longer boxes.    The Ranger would suit me if they had such a thing.   Even the F150 lacks that configuration in any model above an XLT.   The XLT is fine except you can't get an XLT Supercab with the higher trim package.   I guess they have concluded the only people would would want a Supercab just needs a basic truck.    I am glad I got one of the last F150 Lariat Supercabs.     I really would be happy with a Ranger due to the size, maneuverability, and ease of parking but that little box makes it useless to me for hauling what I need to.

Had a platinum F150 supercab been available in 2018 I probably would have bought it.  At the time due to incentives a Lariat supercab was $10k more than a loaded XLT and I couldn't justify the cost difference for leather seats, auto hvac and a garage door opener.   Was looking at a new Ranger when they discontinued  the supercab so I just kept my f150.  I frequently haul 10ft lumber so a 6' minimum bed is a must.

I'd love to see if the Fathom midgate would allow hauling 10 ft boards.  Or something on the new f100.

My ex's father bought a new 2019 Ranger with the super cab and longer bed and he loved it.  I do remember he had a hard time finding one though every dealership only had the crew cab.  He ended up buying one from the largest Ford dealer in the Tampa area and it had I think at the time 100 Rangers on the lot and only 6 were super cabs the rest were all crew cabs.  The sales person was pushing him hard into a crew cab too and he kept telling them he didn't want a crew cab he worked solo and didn't need the back seat room he needed the bed room.

There were only two f150 xlt 2wd supercabs in the colors I wanted within 150 miles of Atlanta and both were at the same dealership with different wheels.

I made this rack system for my 2020 Ranger for hauling 4x8 plywood. I've also hauled 2"x6"x10' lumber with it. It's not ideal for 10' dimensional lumber but it works. I used clamps to keep the lumber from moving.

Oh I could make it work but why bother when my 2018 f150 only has 47k miles.

Yeah, I remember sitting in Ranger and Maverick at auto shows, and the cabs felt pretty similar space wise, especially in the rear seat.  So from that perspective, you're looking at a capability upgrade between the two, not so much cab room/features.

I always thought that they were going to eventually come out with the SuperCab again, after launching with crew cab only, but I guess they figured they wanted to maintain Bronco production rather than give some over to SuperCab Ranger production.

I'd be surprised if this "F-100" doesn't bring something like that back since they'll have to fill the factory with whatever they can.

I don’t want to say too much and get myself in trouble but Bronco production didn’t have as much to do with it as you would think from what I understand of the situation

Interesting....

Basically they didn't feel like it lol.

There's got to be some reason .....probably some combo of ATPs, Maverick sales, production allocation, profits etc....

....or just the general "it's Ford".....

Also having two products under the Ranger (Maverick/Fathom) is going to make pricing the Ranger more difficult

I think the decision to make the F-100 was done when Farley went to Australia back at the start of the year

Yes, I think that is a very safe bet. It was also to put pressure on the Australian government:

Quote

“It’s a choice, because that engineering can be done in a lot of other places cheaper and faster,” Mr Farley told media, including CarExpert.

“Here in Australia, versus China or Vietnam or other places, there is a premium for innovation. So, we’re willing to pay, but your government has to decide if they want engineers in their country, or do you want a country of hairdressers and bankers?”

Love the "hairdressers and bankers" comment.

“If that team could do that with limited resources and beat the LandCruiser 70, which in my career has been an icon of a global industry…

“I think they have a bright future, but we have to have a good plan for Australia.”

"we have to have a good plan for Australia.” ==> F-100

For me it's the stubby bed.  The supercab looked way better with the longer bed.

Oh absolutely get what you’re saying,

imagine the Super cab bed on the crew cab

and the 8’ Single cab bed on the Supercab..

Those would probably do very well for fleet sales. Some, but lesser for retail.

You’re probably right but just building on a Kirby’s point about the short crew cab bed..

Gotta say that I’ve had a liking for F150 supercab look and capability for many years.

That looks pretty good.

Guess they felt it wasn't worth offering?

That looks 100 times better and is 10 times more useful.
