Kia PV5 Open Bed arrives as an EV pickup in Korea

The PV5 is Kia’s first fully electric van from its new Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) business. Kia’s PBVs are total mobility solutions that combine custom-tailored EVs with Hyundai’s most advanced software.

Since launching it in Europe, the UK, South Korea, and other markets last year, the PV5 has earned global recognition, including being crowned the 2026 International Van of the Year, the first time a Korean model has won the award.

While the electric van is impressive in standard Passenger or Cargo mode, Kia has much bigger plans for the PV5.

During its PV5 Tech Day event last year, Kia revealed seven new body types, including a Light Camper, a Refrigerated Truck, a luxury “Prime” model, and an Open Bed variant similar to a pickup truck.

Kia opened orders for a few of these new variants in South Korea this week, including the Open Bed, Passenger donor model, and PV5 WAV, its first side-entry EV for wheelchairs.

KIA and Hyundai have , IMO the least cohesive styling on the road today...completely obsessed with how crazy they can make their head and tail lights adn they dont fit in with their body styles...just horrible...all about the lights...

They're a mixed bag imo. I genuinely like how the new telluride looks. The k9 also looks really good imo.

I hate how the taillights on this thing don't line up with anything...

They need a new wheel guy/gal/nb. Send the current picker to JLR. Worst wheels in the industry, IMO.

Yeah their rims of the last few years have been absolutely hideous.....like no redeeming qualities at all.

We're seeing a lot of design trends from the 80s and 90s making a comeback which sucks because those were shit eras for design imo. One of them has been the return of 3 spoke style rims that Kia and other brands have started using. I hate it lol.

Its like someone made a shape up in CAD software and just rotated it into a wheel pattern without really thinking it through

When you're experimenting with weird shapes in CAD software and your design manager comes in and says "I love that!"

I love so e of their designs and hate others.  Definitely a mixed bag.

The Hyundai EV hatchback thing with retro futuristic styling looks great imo. But their sedan, I believe it's called the EV 6, looks like shit with this super droopy rear end. So yeah, it's all over the place.

What's with the big random "7" trim piece on the d-pillar??  Just looks out of place.

The annoying thing is that some of them would be ok if they just made them 5-spoke designs instead of the ugly 4-spoke.

Hyundai seems to be the only one going "all in" on the 80s look.

Ford's been trying to do some fox body throwbacks with the s650. The interior design and fx package being the best example. I also mentioned the 90s, and there are rumors Ford might use the new edge as styling inspiration for the next gen, which would be a massive mistake imo.

So other brands are definitely trying

A neighbor has a 2024 EV6- I think it's a good looking car overall, unlike the Ioniq 6 with the droopy rear end.

Oh my bad lol. Yeah it's the Iconic 6, the EV 6 is fine. A little generic, but not bad looking.

Its kinda odd looking but at the same time I kinda like it?

To each their own. It's definitely a bold design, and whenever you have bold design, it's gonna be pretty polarizing. It doesn't work for me, but I can see why others might like it.
