The automaker is recalling 548,463 Expeditions from the 2018 through 2024 model years after discovering that chrome plating on the center console can bubble, peel, and separate from the underlying material. When that happens, the trim can develop sharp edges capable of causing injuries.

Yeah I just saw that. My buddy picked me up in his BMW and when I closed the door, my hands got all black and sticky!  I told him and he just sloughed it off. When I got home I searched it and lo and behold it is a problem with certain BMW's. The heat melts the plastic interior grab handle!

Yes, my mom had an '07 335i convertible and its handles peeled several times.  She had the beige interior, and it did the same thing....she had to have them recoated a few times.

...Ford could issue two pair of leather work gloves to owners of affected vehicles...

Had a similar issue on my 2006 Ford Fusion - the chrome "plating" on the interior plastic door handle pull had bubbled and began to peel causing a sharp edge to form from the plating....I replaced the handle and continued on...

Yeah, there comes a point when people have to realize that a vehicle isn't perfect and will wear out.  I mean, some of these are 8 years old!  Seriously, things wear out over time, especially things that are used nearly 100% of the time the car is in use.  What's next, recalls because tires wear out after 10 years and 200k miles?  A safety issue because brakes don't last 15 years?  Geez!

Ford’s Recalling A Quarter-Million Cars Because It Can’t Recall If It Fixed Them In 2018 | Carscoops

Ford is recalling more than a quarter-million Focus models because it can’t confirm that an earlier safety recall from October 2018 was actually completed correctly.

The new recall, 26S40, covers 255,404 Ford Focus vehicles from the 2012-2018 model years that were previously repaired under recall 18S32 (NHTSA campaign 18V735). According to Ford, some vehicles were recorded as having received the required Powertrain Control Module software update even though the correct software may never have been installed. That means the original defect could still be lurking beneath the surface.

2024 Ford Explorer Recalled Over Rollaway Risk

The defect: in affected vehicles, the park system may be damaged by an erroneous powertrain control module (PCM) reset while the vehicle is in motion and not shift into "Park," potentially resulting in a vehicle rollaway risk.

Ford is aware of 27 warranty claims potentially related to this condition. Ford is not aware of any accidents, injuries, or fires related to this condition.

The hazards: if the vehicle does not shift into "Park," it may roll away and result in unintended vehicle movement, thereby increasing the risk of injury or a crash.

Affected vehicles: select 2024 Ford Explorer models built between January 23rd, 2024, and April 25th, 2024.

Number of vehicles affected: 58

The fix: a dealer will inspect the vehicle for park system damage. If damage is found, it will be repaired with new components as appropriate. This service will be performed at no charge to 2024 Ford Explorer owners.

Ford Botched Repairs On Over 125,000 Vehicles, Leading To Four New Recalls | Carscoops

Since there are so many recalls, we’ll keep things brief and note that the automaker is recalling 5,252 vehicles for a transmission clutch that can fracture and leak fluid. This increases the risk of a fire.

1) The new recall impacts the 2015-2018 Focus and 2013-2016 Fusion, which were “repaired incorrectly” under two previous campaigns. 100% of the vehicles are believed to be impacted as they didn’t get the correct software update installed.

2) The second recall involves 10,742 F-150s from the 2018 model year. The government says quickly moving the shifter can cause a loss of the gear indicator on the instrument cluster. It can also lead to “momentary selection of an unintended gear, such as Reverse or Neutral.”

These vehicles were also incorrectly repaired and need to get their powertrain control module software updated to address the issue.

3) Continuing with the recall redux, 18,124 crossovers have windows that can pinch occupants because their automatic reversal system can malfunction. The problem impacts the 2017 Escape, and the government says the “power-operated windows may exert excessive force when encountering an object, before they automatically reverse.”

This means they fail to comply with federal safety standards. As a result of a previously botched recall, they need to get their power window operating software updated.

4) The fourth recall impacts 91,198 F-150s from 2018-2020. They have daytime running lights that can remain fully bright instead of dimming to parking lamps as intended when switching from “Auto lamps” to “Headlamps On.”

They run afoul of federal safety standards and were also incorrectly repaired as part of a previous recall. This means owners need to return to the dealership to have the body control module software updated – hopefully correctly.

5) Since four recalls about previous campaigns are a little boring, Ford decided to spice things up with a brand-new recall involving Explorers that can rollaway. The 2024 models are equipped with 2.3-liter EcoBoost engines.

The issue is a tad complex, but the safety recall report said the crossovers can experience unintentional powertrain control module resets. If these occur while the vehicle is in motion, the parking system can become damaged. This can prevent the vehicle from shifting into park, which can cause it to unexpectedly rollaway.

The problem is being blamed on a Diagnostic Identifier data packet that is too large for the Powertrain Control Module to handle. This can result in buffer overflow, which trips a reset. The reset causes the transmission to shift to park, even if the vehicle is in motion.

Ford became aware of the issue in May and has found 27 warranty claims potentially related to the issue. However, there have been no accidents or injuries.

As part of the recall, dealers will inspect the parking system for damage and replace parts as needed.

Another day, another recall:

Ford Escape Recalled Yet Again Over Windows That Could Pinch Fingers - Autoblog

The recall affects 18,124 Ford Escape vehicles from the 2017 model year. These models were originally recalled for the same issue in August 2016, but the software fix implemented at that time has been deemed inadequate.

“If the window closing force exceeds the regulatory requirement, it could increase the risk of injury,” said Ford in the recall report, which was shared by the NHTSA. Although the windows will automatically reverse and open again when encountering an object, the force they exert is the problem. This means the Escape does not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 118, related to power-operated windows.

Ford says it isn’t aware of any accidents or injuries related to this recall, but the fault remains a risk. There are no warning signs that the window may malfunction.

The “Gold Standard For New Vehicle Quality” Recalls 741,000 Roll-Away SUVs And 36,000 Flare-Flinging Broncos | Carscoops

The big recall affects 2021 F-150s, 2020-2021 Explorers and Lincoln Aviators, plus 2018-2021 Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators. In total, 741,195 vehicles are involved, making this one of Ford’s larger actions of the year.

Certain transmission downshifts can briefly engage the parking pawl while the vehicle is still moving due to insufficient fluid flow to the park valve, Ford says. That can damage the transmission’s parking system, leaving it unable to securely hold the vehicle in Park if the electronic parking brake isn’t applied. In that situation, the vehicle could roll away, increasing the risk of a crash. One tell-tale that a rollaway is on the cards is the possible appearance of a wrench-shaped warning light in the instrument cluster.

There’s also a smaller Ford recall in the news this week involving 36,046 examples of the 2022-2026 Bronco Raptor. In these SUVs, improperly manufactured attachment holes and leftover burrs or fibers can prevent those butch-looking fender flares from fully securing during assembly. As a result, the flares can loosen and eventually detach, creating a road hazard for other drivers.

Not an excuse, but those are at least 5 year old products that we know have issues for the big recall and the Bronco Raptor is manufacturing defect most likely due to a bad setting for the tool.

Sure.  Still a recall, but we'll see how many recalls are 2026+ products...
