The defect: in affected vehicles, an unoccupied driver's seat may recline unintentionally during certain scenarios, such as remote unlock or remote start. The hazards: unexpected movement of the driver’s seat back may trap a second-row occupant, increasing the risk of injury. Affected vehicles: select 2026-2027 Ford Explorer and Aviator SUVs produced from November 24th, 2025, to June 27th, 2026. Ford is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this condition. Number of vehicles affected: 79,579 The fix: the remedy is currently under development. If there's a small child in the back seat (which there shouldn't be if the vehicle is unattended, but...) when this happens, I could see an issue. But, yeah, recalls are getting a little out of hand. There’s been a few times where I’ll get out of the car with kids in it to run into a store for a moment and remote start it to keep the A/C or Heat going. I don't think NHTSA works that way. They made a conscious decision to go back and find past problems and fix them now rather than have them continue to pop up a few at a time for the next several years. Rip off the bandaid and get it over with. If done right and assuming they aren't creating a lot of new problems it will pay off soon.
