Ford Debuts 2027 Ford Expedition 30th Anniversary Package

2027 Ford Expedition: 30th Anniversary Package Launched

The 1990s were when SUVs went mainstream, transitioning from utilitarian work vehicles into the comfortable family cars we know today. One of those SUVs was the Ford Expedition. It turns 30 years old in 2027, and Ford is celebrating the occasion with a 30th Anniversary Appearance Package.

The most striking aspect of the pack is the exterior paint color. It wears Ford’s Blue Ember metallic tri-coat, originally reserved for the Mustang Dark Horse, and comes with unique badging. The automaker pairs the exterior color with 22-inch high-gloss ebony wheels.

Inside, the Expedition features an embossed 30th anniversary badge on the sliding center console lid and the door sills. The anniversary pack will be available on Expeditions equipped with the Stealth Appearance Package and will be distinguished by the Salt Crystal Gray interior.

The paint looks good on there.

I still don't know what they were thinking with that rear black panel or those horrid disconnected running lights within it....

They give it that unmarked VIP Cruiser look that highway patrols use to transport the Governor and other dignitaries. Maybe they could give a way a Stetson Trooper had to the first 500 customers...

Just to see, I did a U1M (Platinum 4x4) build with nothing added except the Blue Ember paint, which automatically added the 30th Anniversary Package. Weirdly, power running boards are NOT standard on the Platinum, they're part of the Driver's Package. Anyway, price tag rings in at... $85250. Actually less than I thought it'd be. Adding in the Driver's Package only adds $1825, and brings the power panoramic roof, power boards, 22 speaker B&O system, power pedals, power tilt/telescope, wireless charge pad, and illuminated rear spoiler as highlights.

Ford's made some mistakes, but one area where they're absolutely making it right now is their color options. This, shelter green, their deep reds and burgundy, Adriatic teal, molten magenta, orange, grabber blue, Robbins egg blue, area 51, and others I guarantee I'm forgetting.

At a time when it feels like every car is some neutral color, it's nice seeing Ford trying to bring color back. A really nice, rich purple/violet color would round things out nicely, and I would like to see a red that rivals the sex appeal of Mazda red. But beyond that, they're acing it.

I hope Ford keeps a lot of these fun colors around for years to come

Eh, to be fair, some of the colors you're referencing are on specific models only, and sometimes even only on particular trims.

There was just an article on Car & Driver (I think?) about how the vehicle color palatte is shifting back from the safe "casket colors" to more vibrant ones.

Yeah, Mazda's "Soul Red Crystal Metallic" is just a frickin' winner. If they ever discontinued that, it'd be a gigantic mistake.

I like the color, but I think I’d have a hard time knowing that this was a special edition. Maybe that’s the point? I like this better than what they did on the mustang and bronco anniversary editions.

Mazda's red is absolutely amazing!

Ford's color pallet leave a lot to be desired IMO.

True, but it's just nice to have the options for more colors in the first place, even if some are limited to packages and trims.

In pictures online, it looks like Ruby Red, but I'm guessing it is a bit more impressive looking in person.

How much money is Ford saving painting the tailgate all in black?

And why just arbitrarily pick one body panel? Why not paint all the doors black to save even more money? Or the hood too? What about the front fenders... they come in pairs so double the savings! What was the thought process behind it? I really want to know.

I believe it is supposed to highlight the split gate.

I rather enjoy the black lift gate. I’ve seen one new expy with body color upper gate and it looks really strange.

10-4 I think Mazda uses a finer metalflake and a richer pigment than most other mfg's.

When you next see a newer Soul Crystal Red Mazda notice how it has a heightened contrast making the contours and scallops of the body stand out more.

What else are they supposed to do for a special edition?

Except it's not really an option unless you want that trim.  If you don't want that trim, sucks for you if you want that color.

I'd be ok with it if it were better integrated.  It just seems like they didn't know what to do, so they made it all black.  Especially when they throw in the random lighting elements that tie into absolutely nothing else in the design.

I think it would look a little better had the black stopped at the lights/lift gate “handle” body line. Then it just looks like a continuation of the window.

The mustang and bronco anniversary editions have stripes on the rocker panels and have a more retro vibe. I like how this is didn’t go that route.

Agreed - just about anything would've been better lol.

Sure, though I don't think Expedition has ever had any retro-looking stripes.

The most "retro"-like thing Expedition wise that I can think of would be the 2-tone tan paint from the Eddie Bauer models.

Something in a two-tone, that's about as actual retro as it would get, I'd agree.

At least until 2028. Then if there isn't a 20th Anniversary Funkmaster Flex model, I'm going to be VERY upset. 😄

Haha, I forgot about that thing....
