BMW to drop iX EV crossover

BMW Is Dropping the iX in the U.S. as EV Sales Slump - Autoblog

BMWBlog was able to get an exclusive insight into a major change to BMW U.S. EV plans moving forward. BMW confirmed to the publication that the iX, considered the brand’s flagship EV SUV, will be discontinued in the American market. This will end the iX’s 5-year run in America, and marks the shift of the current BMW EVs into the Neue Klasse models. However, the iX will continue to be sold elsewhere in the world until 2027.

They have the new iX3 instead, so doesn't make sense to keep another unique model.

Yea, exactly. BMW is focused on successfully launching products using their new generation Neue Klasse platform. iX3 is the first production vehicle using that architecture, and sales of that model are exceeding BMW's expectations. BMW added a second shift at its plant in Debrecen, Hungary to keep up with demand for iX3.

As you can imagine, adding a second shift at a completely new factory much sooner than initially scheduled is a complicated process. That said, it’s a good problem to have, one BMW has already addressed by doubling shifts at its site in Hungary. At full capacity, the factory can build up to 150,000 vehicles annually.

Initially, the standard-wheelbase iX3 (NA5) will be built exclusively in Debrecen. The inaugural Neue Klasse model of the modern era is also likely to be assembled in Mexico. Output at the San Luis Potosí plant is expected to start in mid-2027. In the meantime, a long-wheelbase variant (NA6) will go into production this year in China, from where it will be exported to other markets, including India, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

BMW should ask Ford how doubling EV production on early demand went lol.

Haha, it's the big shots at Ford including Jimbo that should be askin' BMW about how to do a little less talk, a little more action (as was discussed in another thread). 😄

BMW customers can already place orders for its new generation Neue Klasse iX3 (NA5) and i3 (NA0). Ford customers are still waitin' for the order bank to open for its new generation CE1 products.
