We might finally know what the cancelled Ford three row looked like

Recommended Posts

This came up in the most recent discussion on Ford EVs, where this photo was posted claiming it was the three row. I was sceptical at first, assuming it was AI, but doing a google lens search shows it as the banner image for Doug Field's LinkedIn profile. That's the guy in charge of the skunkworks Ford's.

So this is probably legit. I'd be curious if people who've seen the design could chime in an confirm if this is it. It's not great, but not as bad as what I had in mind.

That would need a tape measure on the side, saying you must be LESS that 54" tall to sit in the 3rd row. Overall, I agree, it's not that bad.

While not hideous, it certainly is not very inspiring either...thankfully, it was put out of its misery before it hit the market....would have been a sales dog for certain.

Maybe not something that I personally would buy, but I don’t mind it at all. Not nearly as bad as it was anticipated to be.

I never said it was but the people in the clinics basically said what you did, “I personally wouldn’t buy it but it’s not bad…”

Now imagine how Ford felt with a group of people that responded like you did…

Yep I'd say that is it

I think the main thing throwing me off is the headlight placement and the shape of the DRLs. It looks like you have the main headlight design super low, and than you have this funky DRL on the good above it. Kinda like this but stranger looking.

I'll say this oddly instills me with more confidence and excitement for Ford's future EV efforts. In the sense that this thing isn't the abomination I thought it was going to be. Again, not great, but it's leagues better than what I was envisioning.

So if this is the low point for the design of Ford EVs, I'm actually not that concerned about what the future brings.

Surprised my aimless question dug something up. The guy also pointed out the white is poking out from below the wrap, which I had never noticed before. It matches this picture.

Whether or not the vehicle would succeed all depends on what the price would have been (if it was like $42k I am skeptical unless it was a super high quality). The look is very aero like the Lucid Gravity which I personally like but that is also a luxury vehicle for a company probably ahead of Ford on engineering EVs until the UEV platform.

It's not horrible (at least from this profile shot), but it's nothing special or "I gotta have that" either.

As pointed out, the silhouette and lower rocker panel area matches the one spy shot we have.

I'm on that train as well. I like the look... wouldn't buy one because it doesn't fit my needs.

The other thing is that 3rd row seat must SUCK to get in and out of. Like, I remember how much it sucked getting into the 3rd row in a Flex for test drives... and then how much MORE it sucked doing the same in the MKT because the roof line dipped down. Brutal.

I'd agree, the pattern doesn't look cohesive.

Speaking of lack of cohesion, I noticed it has the same issue a lot of modern designs have, which is that the form language and surfacing isn't consistent. I'm someone where if a design is boxy, I want it to be boxy all around, same with curvey, sporty, or aggressive designs. It's why I like the look of the mach-e and bronco so much, because they're both fantastic looking vehicles for what they are.

But with this, you see it go from a really rounded front end, to a really sharp and squared off rear end, and it just doesn't look as good.

Well it didn’t work it was cancelled lol

I do wish they’d make another GT though.

We know another supercar is in development, but it's an off-road supercar. I've made it known that I hope it's a proper supercar and not like a dakhar SUV.

I personally hope Fords partnering with Hameedi Venturo on that product. I've given my reasons in the past why I believe that could be the case. But if it is, based on what Hameedi has said about their car, then it would be like a hypercar body with long travel suspension with adaptive height. So I'm kinda envisioning something that goes from hypercar height for when you want to fly around a racetrack, and then raises up for off-road driving.

Such a vehicle would be an awesome halo model that kinda combined everything into one model. Off-road suspension from off-road racing, a hybrid system inspired by F1 and prototype racing, a V8 to pay tribute to the mustang, a next gen Ford supercar body shell. That would be a badass vehicle.

But I fear it'll just be a road going version of the t1.

Similar to Honda's cancelled Prologue: on the right:

It’s unfortunate this was canceled. I think Honda got it right with their Saloon. The proportions imo are where they need to be to make that shape appealing, almost Lamborghini like, as oppose to the Ford which is more like a Prius.

It looks like Hyundai is trying this look next…

It's not as bad as I thought but I'm still not a fan of it. I'm very curious to see the Lincoln version. Didn't some say that it was bland but not as controversial as this?

Might have been this:

The front proportions (bumper to wheel spacing) look very similar to the photo above

Future-Lincoln-Electric-Vehicle-EV-Exter

About five years ago Lincoln teased an upcoming EV with this image. At first glance it looks like a Nautilus but the lights are slimmer and the grille is wider.

Related? Or what if this was the Rivian-based EV?
