twintornados
Could be a Job 2 addition....have not seen any official announcement of the purported 8.0L PS....just speculation
tbone
Car and Driver is reporting the 6.7HO is now the standard diesel motor and the 7.3L gasser is the base engine. Perhaps the 8.0 is on the horizon. I wonder what that means for the future of the 6.8L gasser. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a71270721/ford-super-duty-engine-options/

fordmantpw
Ford should just drop the 6.8L and eliminate the extra engine from the lineup. The difference between it and the 7.3L is negligible, and it's one less thing to build, upgrade, etc. I'm assuming that's their plan after dropping it from the Super Duty.

I never understood the need either. I thought it was to fit it in mustang and/or f150.

But what would it offer there over the 5.0? I think the main reason was to have a lower cost alternative to the 7.3L for fleets and low-dollar customers in the Super Duty. They probably found out it wasn't really adding to the bottom line.

It would also offer more torque down low but it gives up HP in its current state also. Plus who knows how emissions might affect Coyote vs the Godzilla engine. Cheaper, yes, but does the F150 need more low-end torque than the 5.0 to make it worth it? Plus, I would assume the 6.8L is quite a bit heavier being iron instead of aluminum. But, adding to the F150 wouldn't mean they would have to drop it from the Super Duty. It would just add economies of scale.
twintornados
Well, maybe Ford is planning yet another truck size to the line....yes folks, the F200....a 5/8 ton beast with standard 6.8L V8 power.... Please note: I am only speculating based solely on Ford's many entries in the pickup truck segment.... Edited May 14 by twintornados
