Jaguar’s Make-Or-Break Electric GT Finally Has A Name: Type 01 - UPDATE: Jag Released Interior Photos

Jaguar Type 01 Is the Official Name of the Car That Will Lead Jaguar's Reboot - Autoblog

For the longest time, the new Jaguar car has been going by unofficial names. It’s been called either the GT or the Type 00, just like the concept shown previously. Now we finally know its real name: it’ll be called the Type 01.

We don’t blame you if it sounds a bit predictable, anticlimactic, or both, but there is meaning to it. Jaguar explains that the use of the word Type refers to classic models, 0 stands for zero emissions, and 1 stands for the first model under the new philosophy.

The driver faces a large digital instrument cluster that stands in for the traditional infotainment screen missing from the center stack, and it covers everything from speed to navigation. Jaguar has skipped a separate display for the front passenger as well. Backing up the cluster is a mirror-replacing screen called the “ClearSight Rear View Display,” set at the base of the windscreen, plus a small smartphone-style touchscreen that pokes out of the center console. That touchscreen holds the climate and media controls, and what look like haptic buttons sit on either side of the two-spoke steering wheel’s central hub, home to the new Jaguar logo.

The color palette draws from “travertine stone and the rich textures of artisan textiles,” giving off ’70s concept car vibes. Cream and brown upholstery meets brass accents on the central spine, while the door cards carry embedded Jaguar leapers. Linear graphics visually merge the hood and the dashboard for a retro-futuristic feel, with the same motif echoed on the steering wheel.

The interior isn't terrible, but not impressive either.

And that’s why it will break them. For a major rebrand like this to work it needs to be absolutely spectacular. So far they’ve fumbled every part of it

The shape of those seats remind of the chairs from school. I can’t even imagine trying to use that tiny screen while driving. And the lack of a center screen makes no sense. The steering wheel is going to always be blocking half your view. I’d also hate to get in a wreck with that “spine” going down the middle of the car.

Why is the spine any different than any other center console?

I hate the grooved pattern thing on the lower hub of the steering wheel.

It seems rigid, maybe even structural. A side impact seems like it might push you up against it. A front or rear impact might cause it to buckle and hit you.

 I mean....I guess?

It goes through crash testing like every other vehicle...

This seems like the perfect car for families who don’t like each other, or an uber driver who does a lot of ride shares. Everyone gets their own sectioned off seat 😂

At 300k or whatever the rumored price is, doubt it'll be going to any ubers!

But yeah, everyone gets their little egg crate section lol.

NO idea who this guy is, but somehow he was able to get in the new Jag.

Hopefully y'all can see these links.   It looks cheap inside, to be honest.

He appears to be a random influencer with not a lot of followers (only 6k on YT). Just give the keys to that Paige Lorenze chick if you're going to go that route. lol

Well 6,000 followers might only be the number of people who are interested in this car.

That smartphone thing in the console is hardly, "technology seamlessly integrated into an entirely new Jaguar experience."

It looks claustrophobic.

I realize it's real-world images vs. the press photos in this post, but still.

It not having a rear window likely doesn't help either.

Jaguar was always my favorite brand, I had hope for this car but this isn’t it. I don’t want brutalist design for a luxury car. I think, sadly, this will be the end of the road for them. I’m

assuming the Type 02 is already being developed with the same style in mind. I’m sure there will be some that like this but not enough to keep them afloat.
