$30,000 EV Truck Spy Shots (Autopian found it)

Recommended Posts

Well as far as I can tell/see, it looks like a truck and a not a science project, so that is a huge help!

Overall size, it looks like pre T6 Ranger in overall length, but sits far closer to the ground, making it look smaller.

So far very encouraging so far...

And IMO this was setup and not as organic as made out to be.

Yeah, this was definitely a setup, especially after Ford themselves said we'd see them on the road soon.

That said, let's look at some observations:

it has frameless doors/windows, similar to Bronco's setup.  Perhaps this saves on weight?

Part of me is wondering if those door handles are fake, and if it'll get something like the Mach E setup....if you look closely in all the images, the handles don't seem to line upwith each other (rotated different angles, and not in a way that they'd line up with a character line, because the front one angles down toward the rear of the vehicle, while the rear one angles up).....with how much they focused on aero with this thing, IMO, it'd be surprising to see it have normal handles like that, given how handles have been an aero focus from all companies of late.

The way the rear upper corner of the 2nd row windows tapers down is different (vs. squared off like most truck products), but it turns down to vertical from that (we can see the white sports camo behind the black camo:

I'd agree that the beltline is covered up slightly, but I can't imagine it it would go any lower than the mirror arm.

It actually has pretty flush side glass, which ironically is usually an attribute of expensive vehicles like Range Rovers.....my guess is perhaps the more flush glass does better on aero, which again was a major focus here.

Also, the backup camera is at the top of the tailgate, so the camo isn't bumped up that much from production on the tailgate.  The bed sides obviously have extra camo on the hips.  The taillights (what we can see) remind me of the '98-07 Super Duty taillights, or perhaps even blackwood:

We can also see that there is definitely a spoiler of some sort, similar to the EV silverado.....what remains to be seen is whether it has buttresses or not...

Here's a bed comparison to Maverick:

It's hard to determine much on the front end.  I do believe it'll have a faux grille insert.  While it's possible it's mis-matched parts, we know the truck is white from the bed photo and what looks like white door jams to the right of the driver, however, the area surrounding the front camera is black, indicating some sort of faux grille.  The only other thing we can really determine is that the front camera is likely close to the actual top of the leading edge of the hood, which would match the more aero design, as shown in the airflow graphic, vs. the bulky more upright camo).

I think I'm seeing right that these are 20" rims....

Yeah I’m not going to bother trying to decipher the front.

I think you can see roughly where the glass actually goes down to due to the bumps and corners here:

I think you can also determine there is no significant buttress. It just appears absent here.

They seem to have slapped on cardboard to obscure the shape of the bed, but I think its sort of tapered upwards.

I wish I had brought my computer with me that has photoshop to overlay over the Maverick graphic below, but my crude quick look at its height using lines based off the 20" rims pegs it at maybe 55" tall, which is is much lower than the Maverick, which comes in at 67.7-69.4"......not sure if that math actually makes sense or not.......the 55" range puts it right at Honda Civic height

People who saw it said it's smaller than a maverick, so your calculations of 55 inches make a decent amount of sense. A maverick is already low to the ground, but this is when lower.

This would also support the claim Jim Farley made about it not being a conventional truck. It's closer to a ute if those dimensions are accurate.

I grabbed some screenshots near other vehicles:

Here's next to a Prius:

There's a Subaru Outback on the left (see it peeking out in front of the Ranger), and a Honda CRV to the right:

The mirror arms seem to stick out pretty far compared to the size of the truck. Almost like towing mirrors... Which one would think is a negative for aero.

I'd agree it seems odd, but Ford went out of their way to call out the aero of the mirrors in previous presentations.....shrug

Being a bit further away from the body may decreases the effect the turbulence from the mirror has on the aero of the body.

Things I like, I love how low it is. I like how it doesn't really look as funky as many of us were fearing, it looks better than the aero graphic for instance was making it out to be. The beltline looks really high which from a visual standpoint is kinda disappointing, but like others have said, parts of the actual beltline might be lower.

Two questions:

1.) is there a thread discussing this on GMI

2.) what does BORG think? His camo-vision is legendary.....😂

There wasn't, but I made one (and copied my observations from here over to there)...

I tried to get interior sides of the camo, but hard to tell in this video:

We can see on the passenger side with the way the camo tapers back that the beltline at minimum sits at this red line, because you can see the window edge go at least that low.

If you look through the interior and at the driver's side glass, you can see that white camo covering up part of the lower glass, prob 1-2 inches so the glass is at least that much lower.

I think its more towards 62 or 66 inches. The Mazda isn’t much taller than it, it looks similarish to the Subaru Forster it passes, and David Tracy (journalist) who is 5’8” is standing on a 6” curb and appears around 1 foot taller than it.

edit: checking back to when Doug Field was leaving and Farley took an IG photo standing next to the truck, it seems about 8 inches shorter than Farley. 60 inches might be right.

Farley (based upon the F1 photo op in 2023 when he stood next to Verstappen, Perez, Horner, and Riccardo he appeared ~2 inches shorter than Riccardo who is 5’10”) is at most 5’8” in heels.IMG_4974.thumb.jpeg.18a6eeb582e4e0295efbf0f9817ef2b5.jpeg

as you can see he is perhaps 7 to 8 inches taller than the truck here. That provides 60 inches.

It's definitely lower than the maverick at least.

I'm sure the aftermarket will step in with lift kits for it...

Zesty best me to it, but you can see what appears to be the actual windows here. I've marked their basic outline with a black marker, and then did an zoomed out version as well.

With the windows at that level, it almost gives me explorer sport trac vibes.

Just now, Texasota said:

Maybe its name will be Ranchero! 😉

I think that's a safe bet. There were rumors of it using the maverick name, but those rumors dated all the way back to like 2023/24 whereas the ranchero rumors were more modern. Lower, wider, sleek, RWD performance ute with a unibody platform. Ranchero makes a lot of sense.

It's worth noting this is the truck at its worse looking, and we don't hate it. A bunch of clunky camo, it's all the same color so it looks fatter whereas the actual truck is basically guaranteed to have some black contrast breaking of the metal. We know going off the tarp image there are some cool creases over the fenders we can't see here. Things like that.

I think they pulled it off now that we can see the entire shape basically in its entirety in terms of proportions.

If anymore else wants to have a crack at it, and almost treat it as like an evolving rendering. We know the front end drops down more than this, there's also an angle to the rear of the roof cab, and there are fender arches similar to the ranger ms-rt. So add those components, and we're getting close.
