The herd arrives next year. Is that hinting at what its going to be called? Would that lean toward Ranchero then? Ranchero is someone living/working on a ranch (theoretically with animals/livestock). jpd80
Remember last year when I was talking about this design, I said then that the front is lower and shorter than Maverick and I was a little concerned about how people would receive that but was open to people accepting change after the extreme of Cybertruck. These photos show that proportion and balance in styling is there but I’m not so sure about the level of interest, hopefully that changes by next year. This is a great effort by Ford but you can see it’s all a contrived release to show us what they want us to see.

That’s my thought, and it’s not a good choice. Think back to the 50’s and 60’s when the ranchero came out. Westerns were the king of pop culture. From tv, movies and radio to toys and fashion, it was everywhere. It made sense for automakers to jump on this trend with their vehicle names. Nobody cares about any of that now. By the 70s and 80s, the ranchero and el Camino names had a negative connotation to them. These were the stereotypical redneck vehicles. The target audience is the exact opposite of everything mentioned above.

But I took the “herd” terminology as being a play on the Unicorn that was sticking its head out of the Skunk Truck bed.

The thing is the buyers of this product would gave next to no recognition of this because they weren’t even born yet or where very young. you do realize that the 1980s where 40 years ago….
02MustangGT
IMO, Ranchero is a nameplate that should not be resurrected regardless of whether this “truck” resembles a ute. Sure, the name perhaps resonates with older folks, but Ford needs to get creative. After all, this is a vehicle of the future (a unicorn), be bold and lean into that concept. You do realize the 50s, 60s, and 70s when the ranchero was actually around was even further in the past right? So by that logic, even less people would know the ranchero name? Even in its prime, it was still a niche vehicle where it couldn’t even beat out the el Camino. No one cares about the ranchero name besides old timers and ford. People are more likely to think juevos rancheros than ford ranchero these days.

Maverick is a well accepted name and owners have embraced it affectionately. Edited June 13 by Texasota
mackinaw
Old guy here, the name Ranchero is both well known and well respected by our generation. Ford seems to be very keen in tapping into its past, so using Ranchero makes total sense. It's got my vote.

Exactly the point I was making-people who are actually going to buy this product have very little exposure to something that was last sold 40-60 years ago and the people bitching about it most likely shouldn't be driving due to their age 😛 2 1

It's kinda hard to tell with all the padding like you mentioned, so I'm kinda working off the covered sheet image we have as well as the mule. On the covered sheet, it looks like there's a character line maybe a few inches about the front wheel and that same line wraps across the front fascia. I'm using that as a reference for the rough height of the lights but I can try making it lower.

It’s in the proportions. take a look at the distance between the bottom of the A frame and the top of the wheel arch, on your rendering that is a lot smaller gap meaning you have to carry the hood line higher further forward. Now see where the headlights sit, split with about half above the top of the arch and the rest below that. Not criticising, just a thought…. lincolnt6
I bet this patent from last year is a big hint at what the side profile looks like

I'll try to incorporate it using sketches and AI and update the rendering if I can get any closer. As is the case with the other rendering I posted earlier, if anyone wants to download it and make their own changes as a community, feel free to do so.

This sums it up: there were exactly the same reservations expressed about the Maverick name, and those reservations were demonstrably proven to be unfounded by the market's acceptance of the Maverick. Using Ranchero will not make or break this product - it will fail or succeed on its merits, in the same way as Maverick.

A designer once told/ warned me that small changes have huge effect on the overall appearance, so if you are able to play around with the proportions a little and then it may not take much to drop the front, see where headlights and grille sit in relation to the other known features, I’m sure you will see it PS, I like your original design and if the front was exactly like that, it would be an even easier sell Edited June 14 by jpd80
