I personally have no interest in it or buying one (I'd get a Mach E or Mustang Sedan before this) but I'm excited to see how it does and what comes next with it. You also said no way it would be $30k. 😎

DeluxeStang
Overall, calling it fathom was the right move. A neat sounding, fresh name for a super innovative and groundbreaking product. Using a heritage name for that always felt kinda off. Plus ranchero is up there with Thunderbird for being a pretty clunky sounding name imo. This would have been Capri or mustang mach-e all over again had they called it ranchero. A bunch of enthusiasts bitching about it ruining the ranchero nameplate. Giving it something new was the better approach. Hopefully that means other future Ford icons introduce more new names instead of relying on heritage alone. Fathom is definitely better than ranchero, however, ever since Sherminators typo (fantom), I keep thinking Ford Phantom sounds so much better than both of them. jniffen
The one thing Slate has over this, is potential Dealer Markup. If my memory is correct, (ha that's a laugh), Slate is purchased by bypassing dealerships. $28K, we'll take care of that! How's $35K sound? sullynd
I paid MSRP for both my Mach-E and Lightning and was the first delivery of both at the dealer I purchased from.

You can’t believe everything you read on the Internet. Are/were there dealers who were unscrupulous? Sure. Was it widespread? No. Charging $20,000 off our MSRP is a great click bait headline, and sure, some people paid it. Some people paid inflated prices for the cyber truck. That didn’t even involve the dealerships. Part of the craziness was the nature of the time. Even used car pricing went nuts during Covid. I’m sure I’ve spent a lot more time in the Mach-E and Lightning forums than you have. It wasn’t really all that widespread.
Sherminator98
I can see dealerships trying to be dicks with ADMs when they first come out, but if its successful, supply will ruin that ability
02MustangGT
Can we change the thread title to reflect the actual price of Fathom (lol at the name). Yes, still “under $30k”: Destination and delivery charges of $1,595 will bring the price to $29,945.

Over on the maverick forums, I created one of the largest and longest running threads on the site pertaining to honest dealerships. It came at a time when dealers were being ridiculous regarding mavericks, especially at release. They were adding markups, and in many cases, literally selling trucks out from under buyers who ordered them. It was super shady. So we put together a nation wide collection of honest, reasonable dealerships who weren't playing games, and who treated people fairly. It was a win-win, giving buyers a better experience, and rewarding honest, sensible dealers with more business. It worked. If dealerships try to act out again, we'll do the same thing. DeluxeStang
I wonder if these site colors hint at some of the colors they'll offer. A green, blue, and peach like color, all pretty unique. Edited August 7 by DeluxeStang

Maybe the accents in the stock truck are an inoffensive neutral tone to avoid complaints. But you can buy ones in these colors and swap them out. Kinda like slate. If you want peach interior door accents, buy them from Ford and install.

Since one of ford’s goals is to keep the fathom affordable, I’d guess less color options (and no unique one-off colors) will simplify the build process and keep costs down. I believe the people who toured the skunkworks were told they would be taking a new approach with things like paint colors and materials compared to conventional Ford's. Maybe it'll be somewhere in-between. A unique series of colors to these new affordable EVs. Shared across multiple models, but excuse to various UEV products. Kinda like how Ford had this stunning silver ish turquoise on hybrid fusions, c-maxs, and escapes back in the day.
Sherminator98
I'd hope they go with beach/ocean themed colors to go along with the name. A nice deep blue metallic would be nice
Motorpsychology
I got a email inviting me to reserve one, uh no. Fathom is a ridiculous name. It is an antiquated nautical term equivalent to six feet. Even Skunk Truck would’ve been better, or “F’o’c’sle”. While Ford was busy laying off people, they could have broomed the naming convention folks; Mach-e and now Fathom. Horatio Hornblower would be proud, though. ⛴️
Flying68
They should offer colors like Mopar did in the muscle car era. As my daughter likes to point out, car colors are boring, they need more vibrant selections. Probably because she drives our old MkC, which is black on black. If these new, cheap, EV's are intended for a younger audience, make them appeal to the younger audience.

I also wonder if that image pattern with the rounded rectangles and circles hints at either a faux grille pattern (mixed messages on that one), or perhaps a speaker grille pattern or something. Or maybe I'm grasping at straws lol. 11 hours ago, DeluxeStang said: That could be a lot of fun. Just an idea, but interior trim pieces in various colors that were super easy to unscrew and swap out. If you want peach interior door accents, buy them from Ford and install. Ford already has set a precedence with this with Bronco of the panels that can be swapped out. I could see them offering them on this product to capture some of the customization options Slate has (also helps with the "passion" mantra by letting people pick "their" color). Now they have to just not overcharge for the parts....... Edited August 7 by rmc523
rmc523
19 hours ago, Sherminator98 said: So with going on what Borg is saying, no AWD option for it? Following up your question.....Borg directly addressed AWD: To add more details. Base gets you RWD and 200 Miles of range. Add $2K for AWD (like Tesla), and about $3-4K for extended range which is around 280-300 miles. So around $40K for loaded, I’d estimate. I’m estimating the extended battery price based on Mach E, which is over $4K but larger and more expensive than the standard range LFP packs. 200 eh? hmmm.............sounds low. I guess Slate has 205 standard with less space.....I'm just worried about how people will react to it, especially since real-world numbers likely won't hit that figure. T-dubz
Kind of embarrassing when the Nissan leaf offers 303 miles of range for $30k and they aren’t even using some new manufacturing process to lower costs like ford is.
