A PHEV, right?  😁 oh man, this is so much fun!

Maybe, if I can get one

But hey the only reason for the interest is that it has a Mustang Sedan wrapped around it 😛

I was thinking the Mach E, but it looks like it won't be around after 2030.

I drive a standard range GM Pickup EV rated at 283, but I average about 320+ on a full charge.

Was getting about 270 on a full charge in my previous Hyundai Ioniq. I take 2-4 150+ mile road trips a year and the extra 50 miles in the GM is a game changer, especially considering highway range depletion.

Ford Fathom Will Not Utilize Apple CarPlay Ultra

Alan Clarke, vice president of advanced vehicle projects at Ford, recently confirmed to GreenCars that the Ford Fathom will not launch with Apple CarPlay Ultra, which is news for a few notable reasons. Chiefly among them is the fact that the Fathom will launch with integrated Apple Maps - which will also be the case with other future models underpinned by the Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform.

The Ford Fathom will also offer both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, though this news came as a bit of a surprise to many, particularly following Ford's partnership with Google in developing its fairly new Digital Experience software. As for why Ford opted to go that route instead of partnering with Google once again, Clarke also explained that decision in this interview.

So far GM is still planning to eliminate CarPlay and Android Auto. Customer backlash continues to grow against that plan. Ford is playing this smart by continuing support for both.

I’m willing to bet GM ultimately will backtrack. For me it would be a deal breaker.

Its probably working because I’m certainly checking for more info on this more frequently than anybody else’s new releases. Only thing that comes close is the Jeep saga at Belvidere which is totally unintentionally a slow drip of whether or not they’re going to build anything there.

Yeah....let's hope it's worth it, otherwise they've set themselves up for an underwhelming debut from oversaturation.

Also.....waiting another 3 months at least is annoying.  Isn't it going on sale in 2027?  Makes me wonder if it's toward the end of the year....

Anyway, its now visible the lower front bumper has some inlets.

Yeah, even EVs need front air intakes for cooling/AC

EV Exec Says Ford Fathom Should Be Plugged In Whenever Pickup Is Home

"You, you can cycle it as many times as you want, and there's also a magic that you get, which is every time you go home, we're going to encourage you to plug in," Alan Clarke, vice president of advanced development projects at Ford, told GreenCars in a recent interview. And, you know, with NCM vehicles, which are most of the vehicles, more than 90% in the US, uh, you're encouraged like, 'Hey, just stay below 85% state of charge mostly, so that way you don't deteriorate your battery.'"

"That doesn't feel good as a consumer. It is a trade-off you make, and we're going to do the opposite. We want you to use the extremity of your battery because our range estimation actually gets better the, the more times you charge to 100%. And so from an algorithm standpoint as well as from, like, a customer use standpoint, every time you get in, we want you to see all of the range that you paid for showing on, showing on the UI, which is a good feeling, right?"

Blue Oval Hopes Ford Fathom Beats Maverick In First Year On Sale

Ford’s $30K Fathom Is Chasing A First-Year EV Sales Number Only Tesla Has Ever Hit | Carscoops

Ford isn’t setting modest goals for its $30,000 Fathom electric pickup. The automaker reportedly expects to sell more than 100,000 during its first year, a number no individual EV from anyone besides Tesla has managed in America.

That’s according to the Wall Street Journal, which spoke to Ford insiders about the automaker’s ambitious sales target. If buyers turn up in the numbers Ford expects, the little four-door truck would immediately become one of America’s biggest-selling EVs.

this feels like some sort of misunderstanding or taken out of context. This thing isn’t delivering until summer 2027. I could understand a sales target of 100k once its up and running or with multiple UEV models combined, but 100k in 2027 seems unrealistic.

Strange language I didn't think about.

that’s still perhaps over ambitious. Maverick didn’t hit that until multiple years in; Ford is essentially still creating and defining a whole vehicle segment here and that doesn’t happen overnight. If I’m wrong that’s cool and impressive though. The Bronco Sport did hit 100k in its first full year so its not unprecedented.

You also had COVID shortages playing havoc with new releases back then too.

Well, that and the fact that Ford has had nothing new for the past 5 years since Maverick came out and won’t have anything else new after Fathom for at least a year.

I'll agree with you that I'm skeptical on sales numbers, but we'll see.....

I also think it's bound to affect Maverick sales as well, since they sit in the same segment......obviously not all Maverick buyers will want an EV, but there has to be some overlap.

I'm guessing Ford is thinking the Fathom will be like the Maverick to a point that it will steal customers who bought a sedan EV because it was cheaper but want/like a truck instead.

If Ford can sell them for less then 40K and make money on them, they'll have a lot of people interested in buying them, since outside of charging/range, that is the biggest issue-cost.

More people will be willing to spend $30-40K on something then if if its $50-70K and unknown to them.

If it doesn't sell, well you can more or less stick a fork in the EV market here then IMO.

I agree with you on that and I hope it is successful. I would seriously consider one if I didn't need to tow our boat. Other than that, it would do most of the things I need a truck for.

I'd agree that they'll see customers pull from other EV makes, but I feel like that market and the Maverick customer pool may be more overlapped than they think.

Interestingly, there are several reports out about how Ford views Fathom customers and towing........I don't disagree with their assessment at all.

EV Exec Outlines How Ford Fathom Owners Will Use Their Pickups: Video

Now, we're learning about how one executive thinks Ford Fathom owners will use their pickups.

"Mulch, kayaks, and skis, and the other things that are actually gonna be what our customers use it for. Very important," Alan Clarke, vice president of advanced development projects at Ford, told GreenCars in a recent interview.

Clarke also said the company doesn't believe Fathom owners will use their pickups to tow much, based on the data it has. "We see a very small percentage of our customers in a Maverick towing, and therefore, we think that even less will be towing in this vehicle. So we'll give the capability, but, being able to tow really heavy weights really long distance isn't something that we've spent a lot of time on."

Previously, Ford revealed that its targeted custom for the Fathom is a mainstream buyer, as well as "value-conscious buyers, tech-savvy younger drivers prioritizing digital features, and the mass market demanding a reliable, tech-forward daily driver." Additionally, Andrew Frick, president of Ford Blue and Model e, has stated that the company believes the Fathom will appeal to existing gas- and hybrid-powered vehicle owners, largely due to its value proposition.

What’s the percentage hybrid vs. non-hybrid? That should be a decent indicator

Alan is spot on. The maverick is a great truck for commuting, and doing hauling with. The payload rating is insanely impressive for such a small truck. But it's not the kinda truck you generally tow with.

I went into my maverick hybrid experience knowing the truck would never see a trailer hitch in its life.

If the fathom has decent payload, a bed to cab passtrough, and a frunk, I believe that will be enough to appeal to people who want a practical vehicle. Even if it doesn't have a great tow rating. Maybe 2k lbs or so like the standard mav hybrid.
