How Utah's Desert Landscape Inspired New, Bold Ford Bronco Design

Recommended Posts

I get why Ford wants to get into the market, if they can offer some simple upgrades and make some money, why not?

That said, obviously that package isn't for me, but someone will buy it!

Something I've always wondered - who puts katzkins on?

As someone who's lived in Utah for 20 years, I don't see any real Utah inspiration in that livery lol. Like there are vague geometric shapes that could be montains, but that's not a thing specific to Utah lol. I was expecting the color to be matched to like our red rocks in Zion's or something. Overall, a swing and a miss that one.

I've been looking into getting them done, but if you order them, they'll set you up with an installer.

But I'm also faced with that I'll likely only have my Bronco another 4 years or so and I'll need tires most likely next year and I was thinking about getting new wheels/tire combo that will be a small fortune...so in the grand scheme of things is it better to dump a couple thousands on new tires/wheels/interior, or just get OEM replacements and keep the interior as is and pocket the money or put it to its replacement....

If you were closer, I'd put them on for you!  I worked my way through college in an upholstery shop.  Replacing seat covers is super easy!

Yeah they don't look too hard-helps if you have a steamer too, right?

No, you don't need a steamer (I don't think we even had one in the shop).  Just some spray silicone to make them slide on easy, some hog rings (assuming they still use those...it's been nearly 30 years), and a hog-ring pliers.  If they've got a few wrinkles after you get them on, let them sit out in the hot sun for a few days and they'll work out.

Only reason I've ever thought of them for Bronco is for those aftermarket A/C seats, and you need the vent holes for them.   But I'll probably just stick with what I've got.  Somehow it's already been nearly 4.5 years since I got it....

All the custom garage broncos have been underwhelming or downright ugly. They need to get some new designers.

I think they're getting too lost in the sauce and getting too carried away with how to personalize the bronco. They're so focused on figuring out if they could that they're not stopping to think if they should to quote Jeff Goldblum.

Some of the trims aren't terrible. There was on in an area 51 style color that had like dessert tan/orange graphics that looked pretty badass to me. So it's hit or miss.

the first two are custom garage packages. They aren’t great. The free wheelin isn’t a custom garage bronco, but it’s just another ugly design. I’m not sure if the Bronco Wild Fund (last pic) was ever sold or if it was just a concept/sema build, but it’s got some of the worst wheels I’ve ever seen. You could add the stroppe in there too as a questionable design, although I like it better than the ones above. I don’t mind the RTR bronco but that neon is a bit bright. They’ve had some nice ones too though. The trail rig bronco is one of my favorites and I like the riptide as well. I think it also goes to show how well ford did with the original broncos. The wildtrak in its original form (with painted roof before it got cancelled.) is a great design. Filson has also grown on me since seeing unfiltered photos.

im surprised that ford hasn’t released a model that mimics the reveal bronco. It still has one of the best interiors on a Bronco and looks pretty cool on the outside too.

A black heritage package seems like a no brainer too.

Yeah, I don't really love any of those top 4 options, they range between generic to tacky imo. This is the one I was thinking of that I thought looked fun, but a little more classy. The orange and area 51 combo won't work for everyone, but I dig it.

Eh the free wheenin package was just cheap way of trying to bring back some heritage design cues from the 1970-80s, which up until say 1985 was a terrible era for cars in general.

I think if Ford wants to mine that-they'd be better off sticking to some of the Mustang stuff like they've done with the heritage 1980s digital dash or maybe a Race Red or Oxford white paint package with homage looking turbine/10 hole wheels with maybe a modern take on the cheese grater taillights lol

That things screams Barbie, not Utah. As noted above, it’s not for me, but I’m sure it’ll sell.
