jpd80 Posted August 18 Share Posted August 18 (edited) Thanks everyone, I have enough just enough in retirement fund and some cash to make it work (not rich by any means) Funny thing is my employer is open to casual 40 hours a fortnight but I dunno, would pay for a nice 347… It was pointed out to me that every extra year you work in your 60s is one less golden year in retirement. I worked for IBM for 31.5 years but I could have retired at 30 years with the same exact benefits. There was no reason to work that extra 18 months other than being unsure about taking that leap. We had a voluntary surplus offer in June which came with 6 months pay (for him). He decided not to take it and instead worked until Dec. 31st then retired. Tried to explain that he was basically working for free at that point but he couldn't grasp the finances. Just said he wasn't quite ready. Hey I work for AT&T too, 29 years, and I’ll retire in Sept as my job “moved”, so getting the severance package. I took that as my opportunity to name the date, so I timed it for planned office shutdown right before Christmas - it’s like 6 months longer than originally planned but everyone is happy including me. Just change the sheet metal and call it something else! Or give it to the Lincoln stable. How about the Lincoln Capri? My uncle had a 1953-ish one which was the same as my father's Ford Crestline. Of course Mercury used the Capri name a while back. Don't tarnish the Mustang legacy with a 4-door! Okay, now somebody's going to blast me!
