Ford Fired Two-Thirds Of The Bosses Who Said Its Trucks Were Good Enough

Recommended Posts

I said repeatedly that you have to make quality a priority and get rid of those who don't buy in.  Sounds like that's exactly what finally happened.  This also corroborates what some of us have been saying about the increased recalls.

Now, when a worker reports an issue, Ford immediately sets about fixing it and identifying the root cause.

What a novel concept.  We were doing it in IT 35 years ago.  Root Cause Analysis and Irreversible Corrective Action.   Better late than never.

In 2023, Ford launched the fifth-generation F-Series Super Duty, a hugely important model for the brand. Things did not go smoothly. Software issues and semiconductor shortages forced the company to park thousands of nearly finished trucks in parking lots across the United States, and they had to be fixed before being sent to dealerships.

Notice how Ford only seems to behave that way when things gone wrong affects its main profit earners.

When it hits their bottom line, Ford reacts and that’s how you reach a company focused on profits,

it also shows how savage parts shortages form Asia can be to just in time manufacturing

Too bad it hasn't made it to the Aviator line yet.  Today my front camera stopped working, so now no front camera, no front sensors, folding mirror issues, tailgate issues, parking brake issues and paint issues.  But what do you expect for $83k.  And Ford is now planning on drive by wire steering and braking...are you f'n crazy, this company buys the worst electronics out there and your going to trust steering and braking electronics to them.

Probably has a lot to do with the number of issues and if there’s more problems happen with F150,

you can bet that will get more attention than another model selling at a fraction of the sales.

It’s just the way things are with people monitoring things…

Yup, for sure....only interests them when it really affects them.

It always affects you - the question is whether it affects you today or a year or two or 10 years later.

Vehicle launches and delays and CAFE impact the company today so it tends to get the higher priority.   By the time problems show up down the road the people responsible are long gone.  It's human nature.

Which is why the CEO has to mandate compliance and make the penalties severe and enforce it to get the culture to change.   Not just on F series but across the board.  I think Farley is finally seeing the financial benefit to lower warranty costs and higher customer satisfaction.

We'll see if the procedures stick around this time, or if they institute them for a few years and then get lax on them in another couple years.

Ford outsourced a lot of component modules that are software controlled which was where the big hurt with F150 back in 2023. Let’s face guys, Ford was trying to do just in time manufacturing with chips coming from China. That only works in a super stable environment and waiting for production of chips to restart is what killed Ford’s plans.

You notice that through each change of command, as it were. 😅

Ford's focus on quality (and product planning for that matter) over the years......

I forget what I was watching the other day, but I saw a Ford ad playing up their improved quality. Heck, it’s the only Ford commercial I’ve seen recently—apparently, the channels I watch are popular with the old folks, ‘cause mostly what I see are Medicare Advantage commercials and AI slop targeting old folks for auto insurance and home warranties. (I swear, the old folks auto insurance commercials are bad—one “old lady” is saying she only drives to the grocery store, but none of the “people” in the background are at all surprised to see her parking in the produce section…)

I love the Carshield commercials with Ice-T and other b list celebrities.  Don't get blindsided with a $2000 repair.  Pay us $4000 and we'll take care of it!

I’ve lost count of how many different car warranty companies I’ve seen advertised. They’re almost all using celebrity spokespeople, so I figure they’re making really good money, which is the first sign that it’s got to be a bad deal for the consumer.

Are you watching on regular cable or over a streaming service?

I've been using YoutubeTV and I've noticed that adverts can be different on whatever device I'm using-I have a Firebox on my TV in the living room, use apple devices for mobile/portable and a PC desktop in other rooms.

I've also noticed this with other streaming platforms I've used.

Neither, just regular over-the-air TV. I don’t see the point of paying for garbage when they’re broadcasting plenty of it for free…

Ford Banked Quality Turnaround On Over 300 Technical Specialists

We also know that Ford brought back a number of "gray beard engineers" as part of its quality overhaul, but now, we're learning that it also brought in a host of technical specialists as well, according to Automotive News. The Blue Oval has either hired or promoted around 350 of them across the last three years, all of whom have one specific responsibility as it pertains to a part or component - such as a person tasked with preventing issues with vehicle wiring or engine contamination.
