Geely’s 1100 hp off-road SUV costs $30K; Gets 43K bookings in an hour

Do we believe UEV and skunkworks would ever be able to match a vehicle at this level, or is it just a lost cause do you think?

I just don't see how Ford, or other Western brands can compete with something this insane. A 30k EV with 1100 hp is insanity. But I hope I'm wrong.

Maybe UEV will make up for it by being higher quality than Chinese offerings, or some other attributes I'm not considering.

It is but I'm also going with that they are getting some sort of government kickback to, because there is just no way that a company can actually make money on something like that with that type of tech in it.

100% they have to be subsidized. It's just a shame China is propping up their companies and industries, whereas we seem to almost be actively working against ours.

Not just ditching things like the tax rebates, but also just the fact that this administration has this almost anti EV sentient to it. Just feels like a massive misstep.

All the tax rebates did was create artificial demand and allowed higher pricing.   Trump and the conservatives aren't anti-ev.  They're against favoring EVs and punishing ICE mfrs.  There is plenty of demand now for EVs and relaxing the draconian CAFE rules are simply allowing buyers to buy what they've always wanted.

CAFE killed small cars as much as changing consumer tastes.  It was a good idea initially and resulted in huge improvements in fuel economy across the board.  But then it hit the wall where it was so difficult to meet requirements that it was better to just stop building them.

China has a massive amount of zombie companies. These zombie companies (unprofitable, debt-laden firms kept alive by state subsidies and bank loans) account for over 12% of the country's total registered enterprises. Much of the subsidies come from local governments because the provincial government's performance is measured by the their local GDP and employment stats. To climb the ladder the local authorities have to impress the CCP.
