JJ@Batvia
Is this State or Federal funds? it does not matter. this is money put aside to retrain ford employees. i posted the link a couple months back but never thought anymore of it until i seen it in the transmitter. if you live in ohio you'll need to contact the superjob's center. 513-825-1070. speak to myrna thomas. outside of ohio could probably still call her so she could refer you locally. also i made a mistake...it's 6k not 5k....my bad.... Atlas
Is this State or Federal funds? Yes it does matter. If Ohio is providing the funds what good is it to someone from Michigan? Edited December 15, 2006 by Atlas
mtplongtime
If you go to www.doleta.gov you can find information, and then you have to contact your state agency as they suggest on the website. Yes it does matter. If Ohio is providing the funds what good is it to someone from Michigan? Michigan is one of the states eligible for the funding. I looked on the website and couldn't find any info. Could you please point me in the right direction? And is this money only for tuition, or can it be used for books/supplies as well? TCAPBtch
Here is the link to the pdf page: http://www.doleta.gov/pdf/CAA%20Auto%20Dem...20-%20FINAL.pdf Is KCMO going to close? Missouri is one of the states that are in this program. There was a news story in our local paper regarding this (no link...I can't find it in the archives) about 2 months ago (right around the time the buyout window opened). The paper stated that those who accepted buyouts would not qualify for these grants. I did do some investigating into it on the gov't pages (again, no links...long time ago), and it was verified that if one takes a buyout they do not qualify for this grant. If this is true, I feel this is really silly for the grants to even be offered. In Minnesota...If you take the buyout, you can't have it. If you don't take the buyout, you're going to be working in another state (transferring from TCAP). If you aren't taking a buyout or transferring, this would enable you to get a $6,000 grant to go to school. Hmmmmmmm...Seems this grant is available to those who want $6,000 instead of $100,000. Any takers?
MichiganTruck_Mafia
and it was verified that if one takes a buyout they do not qualify for this grant. Which makes them basically useless.

JJ@Batvia
Which makes them basically useless. check your sources please. i'm signed up for the buyout and i'm covered. hearsay ruins advancement chances. why would the goverment offer this to workers who still had jobs? investigate on your own please. this is set up to help workers back into the workforce, not to steal workers from ford. methos
My Source "Workers who have accepted a buy-out from Ford are not eligible for CAA’s. "~from the MN Department of Employment and Economic Development. Does anyone have any info on whether Michigan supports this? I searched the Michigan Dept. Labor & Economic Growth (among others) and I had no luck. They did have some info regarding the federal initiative, but nothing as far any programs on their part. Six grand for school related expenses sounds pretty good right now. I sent off some emails at the L&EG site seeking info. If I get a response or find out anything, I will pass in on here. methos
You got the money in your hands yet? It is going to vary from state to state. There might be joint funding requirements or due to the cost of administering the program, the level of participation from each state will likely differ. Minnesota decided that a buyout would suffice. On the other hand, Ohio apparently opted that the buyout was not sufficient and is willing to spend the money. I just hope Michigan feels the same way as Ohio. Every little bit helps

methos
And who do we contact in Michigan about this? It looks like your local Michigan Works office. I called my local branch this morning and he did not know anything about it. I sent him an email with links. He said he would look into it and get back with me. I had sent off quite a few emails this last weekend and they all directed me to the Works dept., and they don't even know anything about it - not good. I also did quite a thorough search on Michigan's web site and they had nothing but a notice on the Federal initiative. Nothing on any state programs, and certainly strange given this is the auto state.

Not to sound greedy but if I can have them spring for it that would be great, every little bit helps. Personally I feel the government owes us something because of the jobs they allow to leave this county NAFTA originally had all these educational funding opportunities in it but it slowly and quitely strip of these programs over the last 6 years. The jobs that were created by transplants get all sorts of subsidies (TIF, Property tax breaks and a host of other incentives to bring thier business here) that they do not give to existing US based companies.
